Does the Steelers staff always err on the side of some guy they know?

Reading about Wings personal demons makes it kinda clear why they picked him. Steelers helping Steelers

They get whoever they want. It just seems like they spend a lot of time regurgitating their scraps. Guess all teams do

The other punter who made the team is on the Eagles practice squad. The Steelers would likely have brought him back if he was available and not on a practice squad

The issue for some fans is bringing back someone they know who's not as good just because they know him rather than him actually being the best available option.

The team needs to just move on from Harvin after this season. The team seems to have wavering confidence in him, and he is always good for a shanked punt at least once per game. He rarely booms punts or pins teams inside the 10. I just don't think he is good for a NFL punter. I know he is the placeholder on FGs, and that is something that by and large goes unnoticed by many but is important, so I think that is likely his best skill right now.

I'd prefer they get a guy who can actually out-punt a high school kid. Wing sucks even worse than Harvin.

I said this before: Could have something to do with Boswell’s comfort level with him as well. Knock on wood … that’s been very good.
