    Steelers trade Dotson to Rams

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/oth...ts/ar-AA1fRe6p

Good value for a depth player. Swap 4th and 5th in 2024 and 5th and 6th in 2025.

I already have read some consternation of some fans that this means Green will make the team. I'm not sure that's set-in stone, but even if it does, I'm ok with that. Picking up earlier draft in picks two years in a row, with 2024 having the potential to be a high 4th round pick, is worth it even if it means Green sticks around as a third center and 4th or 5th guard. Besides, I think they were going to keep Green anyways.

Sorry, didn't see this posted in 53 man roster thread.

i'm surprised he was traded, he was solid depth for the interior OL and I don't have much faith in KG

Either do I. However, I don't think Green will be active on game day, even if he does stick around. I expect Herbig and Jones active for sure. If they activate 8 on game day Spencer would make the most sense , as long as they have confidence that either he or Herbig can cover the center position for one game.
Of course, we could also sign a back-up center yet as well.

The Steelers clear $1.8 million off the 2023 cap. Not a lot but not nothing.

We’ll see if they bring in a back up center or go with what they have right now. Green could still get cut regardless. I don’t see him getting a hat on game day unless it’s to play full back.

I am not surprised by this trade. I like Dotson and think he's a fine player. I just think he is better on the right side, and he really doesn't have the athleticism they covet at the position and in this blocking scheme. He will probably do well if he plays in the right scheme.

I hope they don't keep Green. I don't think he has done anything to earn a roster spot. If they do keep him, I am hoping it is only temporary until they sign someone else that is a better backup center. I don't care if they try Stromberg, or if they find another camp cut they like better. Green can't play center. That much is clear. It doesn't make sense to keep Green as a backup guard, because Dotson is a better guard than him.

I like the kid and wish him success in life, but it appears that may have to happen somewhere else.

Ricky can backup at OG and OC.

Really thought he’d be traded to the Panthers. Guess they are chasing others.

Agreed, it seems only too obvious to have not pursued. I basically called this exact trade.

A mid round pick for Dotson. I thought a third though. Plus an extra elevated swap of rounds. Off by a bit. I did guess the wrong team. I think Green sticks. That said, With Spencer showing to be so versatile and showing quite quite well also, it may have made Green available. I’m actually betting he’s being shopped too. Likely a fifth or sixth straight up. I got 20 bucks on this with my football group. 5:1 odds amongst my group of losers. lol.

Yeah, I think he's capable of that. I only know what I do about him from the draft. I haven't seen him play in training camp or preseason to see how he did.

    Steelers trade Dotson to Rams

    Probably traded the wrong guy?

    Maybe should’ve kept Dotson?

I loved the pick when they drafted him. I think El Gonzo liked him as well. He was lights out playing on the right side. For some unknown reason, they insisted on playing him on the left side after DeCastro and then signed Daniels to play RG when Dotson had shown that he was a very good RG.

I was not happy about how Dotson was used or treated here, and I said so many times.

I'm happy for him signing a lucrative deal and setting himself up for life. I just wish it happened here.

The way Dotson was utilized here and the decision to play him out of his natural position is a real headscratcher.

There was mistakes by the team. But Dotson was flat out awful a great percentage of the time.

Like fire out of his stance, block no one, and turn around and see tuecQB laying on the ground concussed bad.

I think Dotson just couldn't play how they wwsnted him to.

Most likely being misused as he’s been one of the highest graded at his position.

I have a hard time believing it was all misuse. Because Dotson looked lost. The amount of mental mistakes he made was seemingly astronomical.

I strongly suspect getting traded hurt his pride and kicked him into gear and forced him to get his end of things squared away.

I'm sure it was a little of both but we've seen how many linemen leave Pittsburgh and be more successful with their newer team? Matt Feiler, Dotson, even Kendrick Green looked serviceable when he left. Even the ones that were here looked better once the Steelers staff figured out what they were doing was a cluster-f.

I could go on a Pat Meyer sucks rant....but it's hard to say.

Dotson played like he was as dumb as a sack of hammers while he was here.

Even in his successful season, he was a mistak3 prone and from my couch, not assignment sound from down to down.
