He was the Titans TEs coach for 6yrs before getting promoted to OC. I don’t know how involved he has been with QBs. I would like this hire better if we keep Sully as QBs coach too.
I could ride with Arthur Smith. He was in a no win situation in Atlanta with that horrible QB room.
At least he’s got some success as an OC in the NFL.
I know nothing about Smith. Please educate me if you will!
Arthur Smith in his last year as OC w/ the Titans, got Ryan freaking Tannenhill to throw for 3800 yds and 33 TD and Derrick Henry to 17 TDs and 2027 rushing yards. That's what got him the HC job in Atlanta. If he can do that with Tannenhill, he should be able to help Pickett. I hope.

Thanks guys. Not that my opinion matters much, but I certainly want to be educated. So few OCs I know much about, so any knowledge you can impart……well….
I’d forgotten that his dad is the founder of FedEx.
So Steelers depot has an article laying out the case for Arthur. And to me it makes the opposite case. He had two great years of power run game in Tennessee, Derrick freaking Henry
He lined up ATL in the same formation overloading running game for three years with miserable results. Only ones lining up same personnel as often the Steelers.
Guy has shown no ability to be creative or do anything really without a generational talent at RB
He owes part of his ATL paycheck to Henry

ATL bottom 10 in PPG 2 of his 3 seasons. Guy might be the genius we're looking for but it'd be hard to prove. Oh and didn't Tomlin want a QB whisperer? Did shit with any QBs in ATL and Tannehill played about same after he left as during his OC days

Arthur Smith seems like a good fit for the Steelers, and that may be the problem

It sure seems like recently interviewed candidate Arthur Smith fits the perfect profile for what Mike Tomlin may want in an offensive coordinator.
Smith, who interviewed for Matt Canada's old job on Sunday, was an offensive line coach, tight ends coach and eventual offensive coordinator (2019-20) with the Tennessee Titans. He ran a ground-and-pound offense in Tennessee that still managed to score 491 points in 2020 before he got the Atlanta Falcons head coaching job.
The Titan's low-risk passing game with Ryan Tannehill resulted in just 15 total interceptions for Tennessee QBs over those two seasons. During his last two years in Atlanta, the Falcons finished third in rushing attempts at 522 in 2023 and first with 559 in 2022.
That certainly sounds like the kind of offensive approach Mike Tomlin has been trying to implement around Kenny Pickett, doesn't it?

He was that good that he could’ve easily been over 2000 had he been used…especially as a rusher. He only had 976 yards or roughly 57 yards rushing a game and was clearly the best rusher on that team. Only 4TDs as well. He also had about 30 yards receiving per game and probably could’ve had more. He was underutilized on that roster to get Tyler Allgeier touches.
Henry, under Smith, had 321 and 397 touches. Robinson in that same type offense only had 272 touches.
His offensive system was doing nothing in Atlanta and he couldn't or wouldn't change it up . Not too inspiring.
