Offense - Kenny Pickett
Defense - TJ Watt, Cam Heyward
Special Teams - Miles Killebrew
Good choices!
Good choices, but I thought there would be 2 offensive captains as well. No big deal though.
I don’t read into it too much, but I kind of like that Pickett is the only offensive captain. It’s like they’re saying, this is your team now. We believe in you.
He’ll be offensive captain for next 15 years
Seems KP is the leader among the young guys, but really who else was it going to be? There’s no vet like a Hines Ward or Pouncey to be captain. Ben wasn’t captain till 08.
Kenny P!
Honestly I'm excited for the season and to see where Kenny can go with this offense. Not a knock on Ben, but Kenny seems to have that leadership X-factor about him. Ben was an exceptional player, but in my opinion didn't seem to be the leader of that team. In his 2nd year especially, the on-field leaders were much more so the Bus / Ward. However this time's different, it appears to be already Kenny's team.

Formerly known as Fire Goodell
Diontae Johnson, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Najee Harris could've been captain over Pickett. They've been here longer and had arguably much greater impact. Teammates, Coaches, have been raving about Pickett's leadership taking responsibility in the offseason, and its translating onto the field. At least in preseason.
I completely understand why he wasnt named , I doubt he signs a second contract here in fact he may not have his 5th year option exercised ... he will need to really step up for that to happen IMO and if he does he will want more than he deserves is my guess based on his comments on the RB market so we likely see 2 more years of Najee ( including this one ) with an outside chance of a 3rd ...I want my captains as mainstays not short timers
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar
good point. I’m sure he’s a good locker room guy but to be captain that has to be backed up with production on the field- can’t put the blame on poor o line or qb play this year. Just as a comparison he has been stuck at 3.9 yards per average or less. Barry Foster who we were talking about in another thread was closer to 5 yards per carry per season in his first 4 years if you exclude his last year when he played hurt (3.9 yards per average). It’s not just foster; Mendenhall, Bam, Bell, and James Conner, all these guys averages are significantly better than Najee’s - he’s got to step it up this year or as you say, he’s probably gone.
Cam was an easy pick. He is so dug in to everything Pittsburgh. TJ is obvious, probably captain the D when Cam retires. I don’t know enough about Miles to make a call on that. As far as KP goes, think about how new this offense is. Not necessarily young, just new. Think about how long this O has been together. I see KP embracing the leadership role. I’m good with that.
still pretty young on O if you dig into it
DJ is 27
Pickens 22
CA3 24
Najee 24
Conner Heyward 24
Pickett 25
Mooooth 24
Chuks 26
Cole 27
Daniels 25
Warren 25
Washington 22
Jones 22
Seumalo 29
A.Rob 30
Dan Moore 24
so of the 15 guys we likely see the most only 2 are over 27

Aren't team captains for the Steelers based on player vote? This isn't hockey where it is a big complex coded message from the coach.
Killebrew is the best special teams player and everyone knows it.
Cam is the longest tenured Steelers player (or close to it) and has the juice to back up whatever he wants to do.
Watt is the best player on the team.
KP is the new (respected) starting QB.
Would a football team vote any other way?
Did everyone on this entire board completely forget Najee had a lisfranc injury (which is often a death sentence for skill position players' production especially physical ones) to start the season or do you guys just think players that are healthy "enough" to play can produce to their full ability? Mason Cole also dealt with a significant ankle injury that hampered him the entire season. A healthy interior line is an inside runner's best friend. Combined with Mitch + a shaky rookie QB on his first legs, this is kind of a trifecta for not having your best year
Najee will be fine. The O-line will be fine. The receivers will be fine.
Canada is the one we have to worry about, and as a tangent, possibly Kenny as a result too. But Canada is mainly the guy who can fuck this all up
