The #Steelers have agreed to terms with G Nate Herbig on a two-year deal worth $8 million with $4 million guaranteed, source says. Pittsburgh assistant GM Andy Weidl was in Philly when Herbig was with the #Eagles and believes in him as a starter.

PFF gave him an overall 58 for last season. Dotson got a 65.4 and Daniels scored a 66.9. Since these guys played 100% of snaps no need to compare the backups. PFF is by no means the end of the conversation, just thinking this is more of a depth move at the moment.

I don't see him replacing either OG spot yet. Dotson is in his last contract year, and Daniels was maybe our best overall OL last season. Have to wait till TC.

Looks like our annual "This might be an improvement over what we've got ... Curb your enthusiasm, I hear he's not that great ... But there's nothing to lose, it's not like we stand to get much worse ... Ah shit." signing for the offensive line.

Apparently, he graded higher in his three years with the Eagles.

I don't know what the plan is for him. I'm assuming they want someone to push Dotson, but this is a good signing to me because it improves the depth of the OL. The OL stayed healthy all season last year and they improved as the season went on. But we all know that staying entirely healthy is an anomaly. That doesn't happen very often. I think this strengthens the OL group as a whole and gives them a quality backup to step in and perform at an acceptable level. If he outplays Dotson and takes the starting LG spot, the group is upgraded even further if he plays at that level.

It may be that he pushes Green more than Dotson.

Seems to be a under the radar signing. I think it's likely they signed him to be the starter at LG.

Is everyone with a twitter account an expert? These tweets from random people keep getting posted in threads. Does anyone have any clue who any of them are?

No. It’s ridiculous…it’s nothing but some dumb guys opinion. No different than mine or yours.

Brandon Thorn is one of the more respected football analyst on the internet. The respect goes from NFL scouts to players. He knows what he's talking about, especially when it comes to line play on both sides of the ball. Check out his work.

Carney does great stuff for Steelers Depot but he was using analytics via ESPN.

His brother looks like a pretty decent prospect at Edge rusher, coming out of Wisconsin.

Herbig is the last of the Jim Leonard linebackers coming out of Wisco.

He has a knack for making plays and seems to be a better athlete than might appear at first glance. A common trait from recent Badger backers.

But he’s playing at around 230 or so on the edge. Not sure that’s gonna work in the NFL. And based on how he was used in college, he’s not got a ton of experience playing in coverage/space.

I think he’s going to have to move inside in the NFL and that’s going to be all speculative projection based on limited snaps on tape and athletic testing numbers.

I’ve consistently been off on the NFL ceiling of Badger LBers. Edward s, Borland, Sanborn, Van Ginkel have all moved to the next level with more success than I thought their Big10 career would warrant.

Watt stands aside for this because he was just obviously a game wrecker.

I like the idea of taking a shot on Herbig moving inside but only at the right draft cost. He’d be great with that middle round pick the Steelers currently don’t have.
