The dude played like one season in the NFL 10 years ago, and is now arguing over rent money in a shitty apartment with a curtain for a wall between the master bedroom and the kitchen. I don't think he was living the high life or had any money stashed away to hire a high-powered attorney.
Based on the video, I have no idea how that would not be a slam-dunk case for way more prison time, except that if you get a liberal DA or a liberal judge with shit for brains, you can basically do whatever you want including murder and get away with a slap on the wrist.
