But I don't, and I am able to watch the least amount of non-Steelers NFL than I ever have before, see a lot of teams setting out to run the ball. They end up doing it because it works or (often) because their passing attack is so terrible.

Look at the Steelers even. They want to run the ball to take pressure of their not good QBs. They try to run the ball. But they are not a rushing offense. They just aren't. Everything they do from who they prioritize in the draft, the formations they line up in, and the plays they call all shows that they want to be a big-play passing attack.

Show me the team that is spending prioritized resources on 1990's Cowboys style OL, fullbacks with constantly broken noses, and TEs whose first line in the scouting report is not "can't block, but runs like a gazelle..." and I will buy that we are seeing a shift to run focused offensive schemes.

I think, and that is always dangerous and often wrong, that teams are running the ball while they figure out how to tweak their passing game to attack all these two safety looks that are in vogue around the league. Maybe you all are right. Maybe teams will feel they have to run often enough to pull that other safety into the box and kick the nickelback off the field in favor of another LB to enable them to hunt big passing plays that we will see teams changing their priorities and drafting big uglies, blocking TEs, etc and we get run heavy gameplans re-emerging across the league.

But, honestly, I doubt it. This is an NFL where very average WRs are getting 10+ million per year.
I take it as simply put the talent inevitably diminishing at the position. We're seeing a return to the 1980's-1990's, where NFL Quarterbacks were very top-heavy. A select few legends (Elway, Marino, Aikman, Favre, Young) and a bunch of okay journeymen and mediocrity.

In the 2000's and 2010's, not only was there good quarterbacks, but multiple great QB's who are future hall-of-famers and some of the best to ever play the game. Peyton, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Ben, Favre, Rivers, Ryan, Romo. Even the most mediocre and second-tier teams had capable quarterbacks. Like Russell Wilson, Kurt Warner, Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, Andy Dalton, Cam Newton, and Matt Stafford. Even Joe Flacco turned on the heat for a postseason.

This power creep is difficult to maintain. Sooner or later there's going to be a major drop off. We've been blessed with two decades of excellent QB play around the league.

The only reason why I would take Kenny Pickett over (almost) any Quarterback in the league for the Steelers is that he's a rookie and is playing on his first deal. These guys blow, and on top of it, they cost a lot of money.

49ers look like a pretty well rounded squad.

For me Steelers line coach. Resurfacing for all the wrong reasons.

I was thinking about this today. Related to the fact that Kugler kinda sucked with the Steelers unless I’m thinking of somebody else and has never been unemployed.

Hear me out. Put this and the coach tree discussion together. Maybe there’s just not enough good coaches to go around. Or the NFL and NCAA stink at identifying new coaches (it is this one).

Terrible coaches that are proven poor performers just keep getting recycled until their drunk in Mexico.
