    William Jackson Finally A Steeler

    https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/footba...illiam-jackson

This is what I was talking about in the Claypool thread.

    Are they rebuilding or competing?

They seem to have the genius plan of doing both?

Again...this is the kinda nonsense teams that can pick a plan make.

More like Tomlin getting guys he wanted in the first place? Teegre should know all the details.

    William Jackson Finally A Steeler

Hey, can’t be a bad thing as he will be an upgrade and will allow us to draft 2 OL and a LB/DL this offseason and still have a 3rd rounder for a WR if needed. Makes for a pretty quick rebuild honestly.

A head scratcher for sure. This is a player Washington was gonna let walk if the deal didn't get done. You've gotta wonder with the season likely over what benefit does this have at this point in time?

If he continues to play like he has for the Commanders, he is totally unplayable and is WORSE than the Steelers current group.

That is my concern with William Jackson. He has not been close to an elite corner this year. Supposedly he excels in man coverage vs. zone, and I am not sure how the Steelers plan to use him here.

It didn't cost them much reportedly. Can cap $$$ really aren't an issue for this team. So I guess it isn't a big deal no matter what.

But I dunno....I don't get this one. Like after reading that Claypool is a malcontent and doesn't really have a solid role moving forward I get that one a bit more now.

But trading for an underperforming DB just seems like re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

I am afraid of their bad history of trading for also ran DBs. (Justin Brown, Brandon Boykin, Witherspoon, etc)

I would venture to guess the move is to add some veteran depth.
Witherspoon has underwhelmed and been hurt. Pierre was just hurt last game. Levi Wallace... Sutton is the best guy.
After getting burned by the deep ball way too often, they did need help.

That being said, I don't think it takes a CB off the needs list for the draft... It's not like he's coming in with Haden like credentials.

a great move , liken to the Minkah move ... a season that is doomed but the move was made for the future ...

Jackson and a healthy Spoon manning the corners kick Sutton inside to the slot and Levi Wallace becomes 1st man off the Bench is a really solid secondary on paper ... looks like Man is the new formula ... whats not to like ??
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar

Because the Redskins play primarily zone ... Jackson is a man corner

if you are going to pay for a guy like Jackson ( the skins did 40 million worth ) you have to play to his strengths not to his weaknesses but its the skins what do you expect

It's strange that not one other NFL team was willing to take a chance on a guy that was drafted in the 1st round, couple that with the fact Washington was gonna cut the guy within a couple of hours if this hadn't worked. I hope it's a case of wrong scheme like you mentioned.

you always throw an offer out , if the Redskins would have cut him a dozen teams would have been ringing his agents phone ... this way you assure you control his rights , send the skins something and you get your guy ..

the primary reason I think we got him for such little return is his contract value ... we have a rookie QB now so have some money to cover that contract

He wasn’t really that good with the Bengals either.

I hope it’s different here but the trend doesn’t look great.

should Jackson have done more yeah he should have but he was more of a victim of circumstance I think there , he completely expected his team mate to make that play ( and he should have)

Stop. There’s no excuse for Jackson just pulling up there. That’s a bad football play. Really bad.

Or... with the history of bad blood between the Bengals and Steelers, and thinking that Bell might have stepped out of bounds, WJ-III eased up (in order to avoid a penalty).

You at least put hands on and shove him. You won’t get a penalty for that.

Well, you SHOULDN'T get a penalty for that, but it most certainly happens.

Still…you have to attempt a play to end sure he’s out of bounds. You just can’t pull up there. It’s a bad play on his part.

Hopefully he excels in man coverage but how often do the Steelers do that? We’ve all seen the giant holes in the zones week after week…worth a chance for almost nothing but not expecting much out of this deal especially since no other team really wanted him either.
