Todd Bowles has a rep as a really good defensive coach. Tampa has a rep as a really sound defensive team.
In coverage on several of those crucial third down conversions? Linebackers. Linebackers on WRs. Arguably despite the track record and rookie status, the Steelers best WR.
I am so tired of hearing about LBers in coverage as if it is some special problem the Steelers have. All teams have to face the issue. And all teams get caught trying to get away with it.
Now the Steelers particular allegiance to the tire fire that is Spillane in coverage -- that is an issue that can and should be discussed.
The issue of it taking the injury of every other DB to give Pierre and some others some playing time and then seeing that they can play...that is an issue that can and should be discussed.
Linebackers will always be in coverage. Always have been. If our OC would use that to his advantage our offense would be putting up close to 30 points a game too. Are you kidding me with the talent we have in the WR room? Then there's PF and Najee in the passing game. How do other defenses have that many CBs?
The steelers are 31st against the pass and 30th in yards per pass play
The offense deserve to be the story for the 2-6 record but the defense is a huge issues too.Last year it was against the run, this year this is against the pass...Our pass defense was better in 2015 with Blake as one of our corner and Jarvis Jones as one of our pass rusher.
Of course but injuries are part of the game. But even right now this defense is better on paper that the 2015 steelers since they had players like Jarvis Jones as pass rusher and Blake as corner and Mitchell and Will Allen as safety but the 2015 defense had still better results that now....
Yes. Since Lebeau was forced out the defense has been awful. It is one of the worst playoff defenses since 2015 allowing 29.8 ppg. Since 2017 the defense in three games is allowing 45 ppg which is the worst in the NFL by 11 ppg.
That's awful right? The only rebuttal I see is the usual: What about the regular season stats?
Over 40 running play,37 minutes and 200 rushing yards for the steelers....Cowher must be very proud!
Why to sift back through a thread, find a post from 2 weeks ago, and try and start a troll argument with it.
And since you claim to be able to read and seem to enjoy reading through old posts - take a look at the lengthy and endless debates about how the Steelers defense is done in by the dreaded LB on WR coverage scheme. Then read the post you pulled out again, with context, and it should all make sense. It did to almost everyone else.
Let us see if you can put your critical thinking skills to good use.
I was thinking while watching the game yesterday that this looks like a classic Steeler offense. Strong run game, more runs than passes, QB passes for under 200 yards with a TD and no picks. Defense closes out the game with an INT. Sounds like a typical Neil O'Donnell / Cowher game![]()
