If Crapnada is not gone after the bye, I will be the biggest “Fire Tomlin” person on this board.
We can evaluate him on what we see, he can complete passes into tight areas, his arm is good enough for the NFL, he misses open receivers occasionally, he seems to go from one option to the next, to the next, etc., he has good pocket awareness, he is mobile, scrambles looking to throw but will run it, is a good leader, doesn't get rattled, hasn't been given the reins to the offense and probably won't for another year or two. Passes over the middle and his deep ball will get worked on in the off season and training camp, for now, we probably won't see many of those throws this year just due to the fact the Steelers are stressing ball security right now to ensure they stay in games. IMO, Picjett has a high ceiling in the NFL.

If you watch the NFL.com film of the game vs the Falcons you can watch every throw and decision KP made during the game in a condensed version. He makes some very good and some very bad throws. As you would expect from a rookie. I don't see so much a 'play call' problem, although there are some dumb ones, but more simple execution. There are several intermediate routes where he hits the receiver too low. In the redzone, his decision making gets more 'tentative?' I guess. Maybe a 'don't screw up here' mentality over a 'just go for it' mentality? Again, something rookies work through. Redzone is where the play calling falls down the most too. Plays don't look crisp and KP looks nervous.

All part of the growing pains.

Nervousness is fed or alleviated by the coaches: either it’s a ‘be careful, don’t take risks, we want to win football games cause we think we have shot at the playoffs (or want to maintain coach’s non losing streak)’

Or it’s a go for it, don’t worry about standings or playoffs, trust your instincts, lets design something for muth or Pickens in the red zone to maximize our success rate’

it seems like more of the former

Because you are looking for more of the former. Everything you listed there is something from your head, not from a gameplan.

No, that’s just your take and I know where your coming from; That is in essence the game plan. Coaches totally influence the amount of risk a QB takes, to deny that is just not seeing the reality.

Upset that I’m speaking truth? Your posts always ignore the big influence coaching has on players and teams. Strategy and coaching are everything. Your coaches apologist posts are mundane. KP is tentative cause he’s a rookie? That’s it? What a bullshit whitewashed take. There are plenty of rookies who have taken chances and made mistakes like Manning. they took chances because they’re coaches encouraged them to do so.

no man conquers another mans fears ...

that is something each person has to do on their own no matter what walk of life you come from...

their are coaching things that do minimize risk but that is pretty much limited by play calling beyond that not much they can do as they are not on the field ... other than run plays , every call has multiple reads so only so much you can do as a coach to minimize risk unless ..

    A) all you call are runs

    or

    B) every call is a 1 read of and Go ( QB run )
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar

KP faces an aggressive pass defense today. We need a good outing from the OL to give him some time for reads. Honestly, the one thing that makes me nervous about this game is it's Kenny's first one. The Ravens defense is going to try to overwhelm him. #Here We GO!! Ravens week!!

I agree with this assessment that each man is responsible for his own fears.

I also agree with the adage that "fear is what happens when you don't know what you are doing". So coaching up the QB on the coverages, route combinations and correct decision making of where the throw the ball based upon the reads, whether it be the first, second, third read, or throw it in the stands, run it or just take the sack and live to play the next down, are all helpful.

Its a learning process and anybody that has coached athletes knows the point where players are still "drinking from a fire hydrant" of information and when they have absorbed a lot of the information and "the game slows down". When things slow down, you still coach up the fine points, but there is a time where you let players play, IMO. Just like letting a baseball pitcher work out of a tough inning, when you trust a guy you let ballers ball. Whether its KP, Ben, Minkah, Joe Haden, etc.

Starting to wonder if Kenny is tough enough for the NFL, that’s already 2 concussions and those hits weren’t even that bad

That’s how it goes for the whole league. That’s not just a Kenny thing…it’s the strictness of the new concussion protocol.

Kenny is fine. Blame the Tua debacle.

If the QB sees anything resembling a head shot or head bounce, he's going to be pulled.

The Steelers had not turned the ball over since the bye week. We had three today. The little things you take for granted.

Our chances of winning flushed down the toilet as soon as we lost him. Lets hope he's okay.

Trashbisky strikes again. This guy should never suit up for another Steeler game, like, ever.

Agreed with the bold - but they can give helpful advice (such as don't be afraid to make a mistake - which is vital advice in many professions) or unhelpful advice (such as make the safe throw). EL Gonzo made a pretty good reply so i'll leave it at that.

This was how Big Ben did it. When things are rough and aren't the best, fight through and find a way to win. Great finish by Kenny Pickett.

Kenny Pickett stepped up in a big moment and made it happen to get the win. That's what franchise QB's do.

He continues to take steps in the right direction and improve every week.
