There aren’t Gronkowski types out there. They just don’t come about that often. When people compare these players to Gronk it’s never going to be a fair comparison. It’s very rare to find a Gronk.

Totally agree. I am not really advocating for only drafting the next Gronk or some other unrealistic goal.

But that every single draft class there are 1-3 TEs that are super duper hyped based on some eye-popping combine # or pro day drill performance. Then they get drafted in the top 50 picks and their NFL impact is "meh".

After QB and LT, I think TE is the hardest position to transition to at the pro level. NFL TEs are simply asked to do things that very few, if any, college TEs are consistently tasked with doing. Annually, dozens of these guys fail to make the transition with any degree of success.

Washington has a dazzling set of size and athletic tools. But I remain, as I do of every single college TE, highly skeptical that the rosy game breaking projections for his play at the NFL level actually come to pass.

Tomlin and Khan not at Penn State's pro day. Weidl and Austin are there. Not saying that means the Steelers won't take JP. jr. However, I pretty sure Tomlin has been at the team pro day of all the recent number 1 draft picks. Am I wrong about that?

I think that's correct with the exception of DE Ziggy Hood out of Missouri.

What are the chances Joey Porter jr is a ravens?

John Harbaugh said Penn State CB Joey Porter Jr., a first-round prospect, is a "heck of a player."

He jokes: "The possibility of seeing Joey Porter a Ravens fan, I think it would be great for us."

    Too early to talk draft?

There’s 5-6 teams that need a CB and only three worthy of a first round pick. I would be surprised if any of the three are available at 17 let alone when the Ravens pick.

    Raiders
    Seahawks
    Eagles
    Commanders
    Cardinals
    Bears
    Colts

Top 16 picks will likely include 4 QBs, 3 OTs, 5 Edge/DL, 1 RB and some combination of WR, CB, Safety, and LB. I think there is a very good possibility the Steelers land one of the blue-chip favorites at 17.

Re: Too early to talk draft?

8 first round picks by Tomlin have been DL(3) or LB(5). 3 times DB counting the Minkah trade. Twice each at RB and IOL. And once at QB. Tomlin has never selected an OT in the first round. The odds would say the pick at 17 will be in the defensive front 7. I think if Paris Johnson or Broderick Jones are still on the board this will be an OT pick. Of course all of the draft predictors and network experts are putting their money on DB.

QB, RB, WR, TE, and IOL are probably not on our first round board at all. Ironically, since it’s the offense that has needed the most help lately.

The weakest link is Maulet. If the Steelers can get their hands on Banks, dang that flips the script.

Just read an article by some no name writer predicting that we trade our #1, a 2nd and a 3rd to move up to 12 and take Broderick Jones. Much as I would love a blue chip Olineman, that s a steep price.

Yeah…couldn’t see that happening. That’s way too high a price for the Steelers M.O.

Re: Too early to talk draft?

Tomlin drafted Pouncey and DeCastro in the 1st round. He didn't trade up for either but this means he will go OL at 17 if the right player falls. I don't see such a need at OT, nor such a blue chip OT worth the cost described in that article. I honestly think that an OT will be drafted, but that player will backup this season, either directly behind Dan Moore or as the swing OT.

I vote we don't do that.

Broderick Jones is a dream pick of mine, but they are not trading up for that price to get him. Just by the way the draft will fall, i think their only option at OT will be Dawand Jones at 32. Darnell Wright will not get past the Bills or Bengals, B. Jones, Paris Johnson and Skoronsky will go earlier and OG Torrence will be the trade bait needed for the Steelers to get an extra 3rd imhope!!

Move back. Flip with Kansas City. Let them come up to grab one of their two top rated receivers. This Is my dream first round. Then move back again on day two with one of three (Kansas city included) second rounders. It’s the right draft. A later first. Two seconds. Two thirds and now a fourth also.

There are some family members of the new Steeler free agent signings eligible for the draft. Possible late round picks? Nate Herbig's brother and Isaac Seumalo's cousin. Anybody know if they have potential?

I know nothing about Isaac's cousin.

Nick Herbig was a productive edge rusher at Wisconsin but is a bit undersized, so he may kick inside as an off ball linebacker, which is a total projection. Good athlete. He could be drafted anywhere between the 3rd, or late 5th round.
