Yep. It's why it's so difficult to know when to pull the plug. People just develop differently. Tom Maddox comes to mind as well. Took him eight years to get his head on straight, and then two years in the AFL/XFL before coming back to the NFL. A decade later he wins comeback player of the year and takes the Steelers to the playoffs. He wasn't anything great, but sure did improve from his days as the Broncos QB.

It is very difficult to keep a team focused once they experience success. Kind of why BB shook up the roster so often. Some players have that drive. The rest you replace even if they were key.
