Gonna listen to it tomorrow on my drive!
Ben Roethlisberger admits he initially didn't want Kenny Pickett to succeed when he took over as starter. But he apologized for those feelings.
"I didn’t want him to succeed because they followed me up...I think you’re the future of this team."

That's old news. The media needs to get over their damn selves.
Great episode. I have to say though, the way Ben "aerates" his beer is SO annoying to listen to... Lol

Ben feeling that way about Pickett is normal, no great player wants to be forgotten, and when the replacement comes, I'm sure its tough. But they seem to have a good relationship. I wonder if Ben makes an appearance during camp this Summer? It would've been a distraction last year due to the questions around the QB spot, now with less questions it would be cool to see. The fans would love it I'm sure.
I like Ben's podcast but I don't really care for the beer/food stuff, easily skippable. Also asking Pickett about his religious belief(s), I hate it.

Not what I was meaning or pushing at all with my post. If Ben and Spence reference their faith, so be it. I just think we could do without the snide little comments about a hot button topic like religion on this site. I've enjoyed this place since it started way back in 2010, so it's not like I'm some brand new person around here. Come on ...we're better than this.

Why so sensitive? Because I believe that your statement about "always needing money" is so unbelievably ignorant. It is a giant slap in the face to those of us that faithfully give what we can to support valid ministries in our churches. And no...I'm not some blind and ignorant idiot either. I'm a pretty well-educated person. I'm really disappointed in the turn of this thread.

If you need to make it that to feel victimized, no one can stop you.
You’ve created some blind and ignorant component out of thin air to work yourself up I guess? Because I never said that at all.
I’ve been to slot of churches throughout my life and I find the ones who consistently ask for money at multiple points during the service and thunder from the pulpit about how I need to give them my cash to be saved extremely distasteful.
Those that collect funds and do mission work and good deeds at home and abroad are great. My favorite church community made it known how you could contribute, what their goals are, and provided updates and then moved on.
I prefer they draw a line between their need for a new church roof, humanitarian works in El Salvador or something, from the damnation of my immortal soul because God needs a payday loan.
So, since you assumed it was aimed at you; it became some imagined slight rather than my own expression that some of the $$$ aspects of churchianity don’t make a heckuva lot of sense to me.
I don't feel that it was aimed at me, nor do I feel victimized. I've simply had it with "jokes" aimed at the church. I used to be like that as well, but I realized how wrong it was for me to act like that.
Trust me, it was no easy task to get me to see any other way. I grew up with a Dad who left the seminary as a young pastor and thumbed his nose at the church for a long time because of how they treated my mom. I saw firsthand how his eventual return to his faith changed both him and my mom, and I laughed at them both for it...for a long time. It wasn't until I got that proverbial "slap in the face" that brought me on my own faith journey. One of my most fond memories of my dad was one of the last times I saw him alive, and the tears he shed because he watched me sing and worship on stage at my church.
So yes...I was triggered a little.

Fair and reasonable. I’m not aiming to disparage your or anyone else for their faith. Or lack thereof.
What drives me nuts is the assumption that anyone who doesn’t see it how your congregation sees it is wrong. And I’m not saying that’s you. But I’m more than tired with people who wear their narrow brand of beliefs as their dominant personality trait and play victim if anyone sees it differently. There’s how many versions of Christianity? How many variations in dogma among those? Then theres other belief systems.
I’ve seen people say and do ridiculously offensive stuff but we’re supposed to let it go because it’s what their church believes.
So the foregrounding of this all just makes me want to poke a little air out of the balloon.
I don't disagree with anything you've said. I suspect we could both go on and on about it, but we've probably derailed the thread enough.
Appreciate the conversation, brother.
Anyway...the Cowher episode was awesome! Really enjoyed the back and forth and fresh takes on old stories.

I did as well. I do admit my default to snark can be off putting to say the least. I’ll work on it but no promises.
As with so many things on the internet, this would be more friendly on a barstool rather than a keyboard.
Y’all got me planning on loading these up for my next work trip.
I understand you guys aren't trying to offend anyone. I get it. However, everything you guys are talking about here are the shortcomings of man, not God.
I am a man of faith, but my faith is in God....not men. I question many things that are done in the name of religion in the world. I also question things that are done within the church that don't go hand-in-hand with my beliefs or the spirit of the word of God.
People don't have to go to church to speak to God or to embrace Him and his teachings. The church on earth for many religions has become more of a money grab than anything else. Your relationship with God has nothing to do with how much money you have or how much you put in the basket every week. God doesn't care what color your skin is. God can be a part of your life everywhere you go because there is no barrier between you and Him. Praying and speaking to Him can happen from anywhere, not just from places of worship. That's the true beauty of God.
We are human beings and we are all flawed in some way. Nobody is perfect. Those of us who have faith understand that as long as there is a human element to religion on earth, there are going to be things that are flawed within the religious organizations. However, we trust in God absolutely.
Any disagreements or questions will be taken up with Him when I leave this place.....if He will have me.
How 'bout that podcast, huh?

Man did this thread take a shit.![]()
The story about Ben’s broken nose told by Tomlin has to be my favorite moment from the podcast so far. Nobody wanted to look at Ben directly and Ben kept asking how he looked. All in the timeout huddle.![]()
