Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain…
Brian Baldinger was breaking down some tape of George Pickens. A couple of things he pointed out:
-the catches are obvious
-the big blocks are obvious
What Baldy focused on was what Pickens did AWAY from the ball, two things that set Pickens apart from most receivers:
-there were times when the play was 30 yards away, but Pickens was blocking like he was a lead blocker
-even when Pickens was not the first or second option on a play, Picken ran his routes like he was indeed the primary target; ergo, the defenders HAD to defend him as such on EVERY play… and more importantly, if/when the QB got to his third option, Pickens was where he was supposed to be on the play (not lollygagging / merely going through the motions).
SUMMATION:
Pickens is a steal.
Doesn't matter, cut him now.
I love watching Pickens block, that guy is notorious for pancaking DBs. Not only will be be a prime receiving threat, but also improve the run game by a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if the kid makes the pro bowl in his first year
First rookie of the year for the steelers since 2004?
George Pickens IS THAT DAMN GOOD!!! Find a way to get him the ball. As I said pre-draft, he has the best physical catch radius since Lynn Swann. He's much more aggressive minded than Swannie, so maybe the gifts of Swann with the mentality of Crabtree/Evans?
Imagine him in a true NFL caliber offense....
he has the bloodlines thats for sure ( as I mentioned in the predraft mock thread )
no not Carl Pickens ( although we have no idea who Georges father is I never did get an answer looking for it trying to connect him to Carl )
but he does have a significant athlete relative in his bloodlines
none other than Bo Jackson (his uncle)
so freak athlete is in his DNA
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles problem now
George Pickens has become our clear #1 receiver. A legitimate coordinator takes advantage of this. Unfortunately, we don't have one.
