I get it. Imagine Yankee Stadium, “The House That Ruth Built”, now called Pfizer Park. Big difference. Then again, no one in the Baltimore area really calls it M&T Bank Stadium. It’s simply called Ravens Stadium by most. I suspect most Yinzers will call it Heinz Field regardless of the “official” marque.
we must never forget tell everyone you know New England cheated and might be back at it Edit 1-21-15 there back Edit #2__12-8-19 here we go again Edit #3__ 5-25-23 it never ends
It’s a 15-Year deal.
Here’s what Heinz said: "While we worked diligently with the Steelers for several months around a new naming rights deal, they found a new partner willing to pay significantly more than we could justify," the company said in a statement.
Nothing surprising.
There are so many nicknames Steelers fans could come up with and start calling the stadium/field no matter who the official sponsor is.
Just a few I have heard recently:
The Curtain
Ben and Terry's
The RoethlisBowl
NCT (Noll/Cowher/Tomlin)
The Greene House
The Trophy Room
The list goes on indefinitely. You guys have probably heard of some good ones too.
Nope, and can't blame the Rooneys for taking such a deal. They're getting 10 million a year. The Cardinals have been getting 7.7 mill a season since 2006, the Cowboys are getting somewhere between 17-19 million a season. The Texans signed a deal in 2000 (two years before the stadium opened) for 9 million a season through 2032.
This deal sounds pretty much right in the ballpark for NFL naming rights (no pun intended).
If I was a billionaire I’d buy the naming rights to my team’s stadium and have it named after me. Much cheaper than buying a team.
I can not believe companies keep getting conned into doing this. Good for the Steelers for getting some cash and good for Heinz for not being dumb with their cash.
I read an article suggesting they use the money to enclose the stadium.
