    Re: 2022 Mock drafts

    Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 18 (CLE): Andrew Booth, CB, Clemson (A+)
Round 2 Pick 16 (DEN): Abraham Lucas, OT, Washington State (A-)
Round 2 Pick 17 (CLE): Jordan Battle, FS/SS, Alabama (A)
Round 3 Pick 15: Jarrett Patterson, OG/C, Notre Dame (A)
Round 3 Pick 22 (DEN): Edefuan Ulofoshio, OLB/ILB, Washington (A+)
Round 4 Pick 33 (COMP): Dante Stills, DT, West Virginia (A+)

    Round 7 Pick 4: Isaac SladeMatautia, OLB/ILB, SMU (A+)
Round 7 Pick 15: Travis Dye, RB, Oregon (A+)

while fun as hell https://first-pick.com/NFL/DraftGame.aspx is just to easy to acquire picks ... I mean I could manage 5 or 6 2nd round picks trading back from 15 ( where we stand as of today ) in the real world thats just not possible ...

    1) You are correct about picking at 32.

    2) Elwonu is top 3 on several recent mocks. That would be a steal. Patterson & he would make for a formidable interior.

    Re: 2022 Mock drafts

Going with your no trades draft for the rounds: Although way too freakin early....

    1. Franchise Left Tackle. As for names I like here, in no particular order yet: Trevor Penning(N. Iowa), Evan Neal(Bama), Ikem Ekwonu(NC State). OR Kyle Hamilton Safety(ND).
    2. Safety with the ability to play ILB role Jordan Battle(Bama), ILB with the ability to play SS/NB Nakobe Dean(Georgia), or CB with inside/outside flexability. Looking at guys like Kaiir Elam(Florida), Roger McCreary(AU).
    3. Need a true Center. My personal favorites as of today are Ricky Stromberg(Ark), John Michael Schmitz(Minn). A Right Guard Ed Ingram(LSU), Josh Sills(OkState)
    4. LB Jack Campbell Iowa. Thumper in the mold of VW/Timmons. DT Matthew Butler(Tennessee)
    5. Offensive weapon like a RB Hassan Haskins(Mich) or WR Romeo Doubs(Nevada)
7a. Developmental QB Bailey Zappe or equivalent.
    7b. Slot WR/Returner/Gimmick weapon Calvin Austin(Memphis)

Best to assume those comp picks aren't coming.

Dupree didn't play enough. Joe Haeg played too much. Magic NFL 8 ball makes no sense. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Dupree is a R4 at a minimum... and he started playing again. If the injury had kept him out, then it would not have been a R3 pick. Plus, Haeg suddenly stopped at 23% of the snaps (and his magic number was 25%). I expect him to be on IR for the remainder of the season.

That said, the Feiler R5 pick is up in the air.

I think they'll get a Round 4 and that's it. It is dumb, but they might get none. Witherspoon cancels something out in all this too. Can't remember. Although now that he looks like he at least belongs on a NFL field, that's less annoying.

I may be proven very wrong but I think their frittering away comp picks by rostering guys like Haeg is an ACTUAL thing to complain about. But no one else seem concerned, so I may have my head stuck somwhere unpleasant on this issue.

    Penning is great.

    Ridder there makes sense.

Obviously, I like the Beavers pick.

The BC interior O-line is really good.

Haskins on Day 3 seems like a steal.

That entire Georgia defense can play in the NFL.

I’m a bit concerned about waiting so long for a D-lineman. But, other than that, LET’S GO!!!

I am not sold on any names or positions at any picks. I probably won't get that into it by draft weekend either. As I keep saying year after year, Days1&2 go BPA over need, should they be the same player, BONUS! Draft for QB, someone to protect the QB, or someone to get after the QB in round 1.

    1. As for a QB in round 1 being the BPA, I just don't see one. I know there will be 3-5 go to other teams because they are QBs. I don't think any of them are going to be any shinier on day 1 than what we already have with MR. I still sit with the Ridder fans here.

    2. There are several players that fit into the BPA to protect the QB. The top 25 OTs on most boards have huge size, NFL ready POA strength, and most have played multiple positions along the line. No sense in diving very deep into that position group and trying to pick 'the one'.
At OG/C you see a similar thing. Maybe only the top dozen or so but you see some names on a few lists but not on others. Maybe they haven't officially declared? Look into LSU's Ed Ingram for instance. Most sites have him at a round 3 grade but he's a 3 year starter boasting NFL strength and mobility. Another tough dive.

    3. BPA to get after the QB...You know I love me some LBs. Darrian Beavers is this year's Zaven Collins, his combo size and speed will make him a 1st round pick.
There are several ILBs/Safety combo guys I really like in this draft too. Kyle Hamilton obviously. Brisker/Smith(PSU), Battle/To'oTo'o/Harris(Bama), and Quay Walker(Ga/80 inch wingspan 6'3"-240lbs)

    4. CB is a position that is very rich in this draft for the 1st 2 rounds, then it drops off considerably. At least by all that I read. Take your pick of about a dozen year 1 starters.

    5. I have absolutely nothing to offer from the DL perspective. There are just so many already on roster and they got cycled through at a pretty fast pace. I think Cam was the only one that stayed healthy or played through. I don't really know if there is a need here until I know Tuitt's situation. Being this defense playes pretty much a Nickel base, you get a 4 man front(2 DL and 2 OLB), 2ILBs, and 5 DBs. And typically one of those LBs is dropping. I just don't know the value for DL in this draft. Several prospects I like though.

The Steelers probably will not draft a RB this year. However, take a look at Kevin Harris, S. Carolina. Most draft boards have this guy falling into the very late rounds or possibly UDFA.

    @Born2Steel

I am of the same ilk (in a way). I do not lock onto any one player, but I have 5-7 guys in each round who I think might be there when we pick. If we go for a center in R1 (because it is the BPA), then I obviously would not take one in R2. But, if we go D-line in R1 (because that happens to be the BPA), then I would look at the centers in R2.

    Re: 2022 Mock drafts

Scouts have been watching tape on Linderbaum. Suddenly every mock has him going Top Ten. Oh well.

Conversely, Kenyon Green is dropping (as mocks are inserting every receiver imaginable into R1). Kenyon is the best OG in this draft, but I’m certain Kendrick moves to RG. So… hmmm.

Assuming we don’t get Zeus as a free agent (which is my top priority), my thinking is:

R1: Trevor Penning, RT, Northern Iowa

Lucky for the Steelers that this draft has several tenacious OG prospects that have RT versatility. I really do like Penning and he's a true OT at 6'7"-320+lbs.

If Linderbaum goes top10 there's Lindstrom from BC that's projected at OC as well as Nick Ford from Utah that's a bigger OC option. All 3 look to be instant upgrades at Center for the Steelers plus position versatility if needed. I wouldn't try to guess a round value since I'm sure it would be higher for the Steelers than for a team not looking for an OC.

Quick list of some of the guys I'm talking about....
    Kenyon Green - TA&M
    Darian Kinnard - Kentucky
    Jamaree Salyer - Georgia
    ED Ingram - LSU
    Tyler Smith - Tulsa
    Thayer Munford - OSU

    Re: 2022 Mock drafts

Centers almost always drop. It isn’t that the reports are wrong, it’s just that actual NFL teams don’t draft them high all that often.

All the mock drafts I’m seeing have too many interior OL in the first round and too few QBs.

I went and made this one from the Draft Network simulator. I totally got zoned in on the OL/DL. LOL

    20. Trevor Penning RT UNI
    52. Jamaree Salyer RG/RT Georgia
    84. Chad Muma ILB Wyoming
    135. Keeanu Benton NG Wisconsin
    176. Nick Ford OC Utah
    221 Michael Clemons DE TA&M
    237. Quentin Lake Safety UCLA (Carnell's son)

I’d like a true center (over a RG), because I foresee Kendrick moving over. Of those guys, I’d only draft them if they can (and have) played center. So…
    -Linderbaum
    -Lindstrom
    -Ford

I’ll add Jarrett Patterson, because Notre Dame seems to produce high-quality O-linemen.

I’d also throw a Brinks truck at Zeus. I really like Dan Moore, but if I can get a franchise LT, I’m doing it (and moving Dan to RT). If not bring on Penning!!!

    Re: 2022 Mock drafts

I only bring this up because our RB room will have Najee Harris and Benny Snell as the only RBs under contract for 2022. I doubt the Steelers are looking for a feature back after taking Harris in the 1st, BUT I think the position has to at least be in play for round 4 or later. One place to look is always Coach Mike Norvell(FSU) who seems to have a knack for developing RBs.(4 former RBs currently in the playoffs)

Jashaun Corbin FSU 6'-0" - 221lbs has the size the Steelers look for in RBs.

2020 Highlights, yes I know just a highlight reel. But watch his development from 2020-2021 in how he hits the hole, acceleration through the hole, and development in the passing game. Good coaches develop good players.

    2020:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV_kPj1WSp0

    2021:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th5I_7EQetM

Corbin could be a very nice compliment to Najee Harris, IMO. Not zeroed in on this prospect but I am impressed with what I have seen so far.

I’d rather just sign a mid level backup RB to replace Snell and maybe draft a potential third back. There’s a lot of decent backs going to be out there. Some will obviously get starting jobs but there are a few that may linger for a while through free agency that you may be able to get a deal on.

And that may be exactly the move that gets made. But with this being a 2022 draft thread I went with a draft pick option. Guys like Fournette and Mack and Bolden, etc that carry the size are always in play. I think the Steelers had Mack in for a visit. Maybe? Anyone for bringing Conner back home?
