Some average receivers are getting $12-$14 million… and simultaneously Cooper Kupp makes about that much.
DJ is no Kupp, but he’s also better than Robbie Anderson.

In 2020 he eanked 10th at a 13% drop rate not good. Ill give you that. 2019 and 2021 he had a 3% drop rate. Never had a problem with it in college either.
Ipl also say this dor DJ and Claypool, this season it was kind of rare to get a nice spiral smooth pass. Lot of tumbling ducks

C'mon. That's just silly. https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchartpos/wr
DJ is easily better than the entire WR depth chart of the Dolphins, Patriots, Jets, Texans, Jaguars, Lions, and Falcons.
DJ would be one of the 2 best WR on about 1/3 of the league's rosters if he swapped in today. I suspect if we really got into it; it would be far higher.
He plays the X spot alone in the formation with no scheme help to get off the LOS. Yet he is able to use his physical abilities to shake loose from DBs. That skill alone is worth a ton in the NFL. Teams are always looking for that. Then, despite what many here seem to think, he runs great routes and is a dynamic threat in the open field. Again, two skills the NFL is always looking for and willing to pay through the nose for.
He cleaned up his drops for the most part this year. Somehow averages over 10 yards a catch every season (some over 11) while averaging 7 yards or less per target. That is a pretty clear amount of YAC every time he touches the ball. And he is entering his 4th season...I mean this is a recipe for getting paid in the NFL.
Here is an interesting comparison: https://stathead.com/football/pcm_fi...12&p2yrto=2014
DJ's first 3 full seasons and AB's 3rd through 5 seasons (his first 3 as a full-time player). DJ is only 50 receptions behind. BUT... those were for 1200 more yards and 6 more TDs. I am not saying that DJ is AB. That would be ridiculous. AB was a machine.
But Steelers fans are the only NFL watchers I am aware of that look at DJ and are like that is crappy WR that should just be discarded. He's flawed but even with those flaws is easily a top tier target.

my issue is his drops always seem to come at the most inopportune times ...when the lights are on and its a big moment you can almost count on the fact that he will NOT make the play ..
3 times in the playoffs this year with us tied at zero or up by 7 he had drive ending drops where we could have extended the lead and gave ourselves a chance but DJ couldnt make the routine play routinely ....

What is he going to say really? It's a contract season for him. I guess he could say the league minimum would be fine, but that would be terrible negotiation tactics. "I want what the top WRs in the league make" is the right thing to say. Negotiate from there. Unless you guys have read somewhere he says it's either $15M/yr or he walks. I think JuJu is probably in the $8M-$12M per year range. If JuJu is WR2, then DJ's market is probably $10M-$15M/year. Reasonable? I think so.

Really, DJ is easily better than Waddle, St Brown, Ridley. I admit I don’t care for a guy who drops passes and fumbles away games at end of year and demands 15 mill a year, so maybe my anger at him is distorting his value . But honestly I look at half the league and he’d be third string.
bengals, rams, chiefs, bills, niners , Cowboys, TB, Titans( with healthy Julio)Vikings, Seahawks , chargers and Packers.

Ridley may never play football again. So I am not counting him in this discussion.
St. Brown had like, what, a handful of good games at the end of a season? Let's see him play the X and not have the advantage of scheme and formation to assist him in getting open. Maybe I am all wrong on this, but I believe that the X gets jammed and pressed at the line to interfere with their release far more than the slot guy, who often gets a free release. Plenty of otherwise dynamic WRs that flopped in the NFL because they couldn't get off the LOS solo.
Waddle I don't find impressive at all. But...that could be because I find Tua and the entire Dolphins offense totally underwhelming.
I figure DJ would be the 2nd WR on the Packers, Bills, Chiefs, and Chargers. Robert Woods makes like $15 million per year to do that for the Rams.
I get that Steelers fans, myself included, find ourselves cursing and throwing the remote a bit too often with DJ on gamedays, but I strongly believe that he would be a high demand player if he made it to UFA. Like the kind that signs for big $$$ in the first week or so.

DJ or any player doesn't have to be worth his wage for every team across the league to be worth it to one. The Steelers have rarely paid second big contracts for WRs. This is an offense in flux now though so things could work differently. I'm not going to take a firm stand either way.
