Steeler Nation is SHOCKED!!!
Is it better since the Steelers took outside interviews and Austin went out for one?
You guys shoulda seen my shocked face!
Austin did a good job with the secondary, I have no problem with this move
We'll see if Austin has any Powers.
If this singing occurs on a Tuesday or Friday, then those Steelers fans east of the Mississippi will hate it. That said, since it is happening in February, anyone south of the Mason-Dixon line will also hate the move. Thankfully this is not a leap year, because then any Steelers fan who was born in a month ending in the letter "Y" or the letter "R" would have hated the signing; as it is, only those born in a month with 31 days is obligated to hate Austin... as a coach and as a human being.
I hope that this clarifies things.
Oh yeah! Another promotion from within (and they've all worked out smashingly), of someone who's supposedly "in high-demand" because the Giants requested an interview with him, an organization with which both teams' ownership have literal blood relatives. So I guess, it's congrats Teryl! You get to do next to nothing while earning a great salary until the defense looks terrible enough to fire you, unless you retire first.
P.S. Could you be a little more photogenic for the camera please? Your predecessor already did the whole "standing there, saying nothing with a dumb look on his face" thing, and you might want to mix it up a bit.

Tomlins new lightning rod.
Here we go again !! With so many likes/dislikes on this hire, guess we'll just have to have faith in the FO and player's feelings.
I’m with you FG. I feel like people bitch about decisions made from the top. The Rooneys have big decisions ahead of them. GM is leaving, the QB we’ve had for 18/19 years has retired, we have mostly a new OL……new DC, and probably other coaching jobs to be filled. Honestly, do you hire someone from outside the organization…..just because you can. I would like to give Canada another season. Look what he was saddled with……no Pouncey, no DeCastro, no AV, Rookie RB, aging QB, new TE……maybe our expectations are a bit lofty..but if people are questioning management decisions, I feel certain that they know a lot more than any of us. So let’s give Austin a chance.
No surprises at all. Canada will be OC, Austin the DC and either Khan or Hunt will be the GM, or they share the financial and player acquisition duties with some elevated titles and income.
All good stuff and the players like Austin and he improves the DB room every where he goes. We will see if he brings a little increased pace to the defense or if it is what it has been.
I honestly haven't put any thought into this (mostly because I have no control over it), and I'm not judging the individual hire here at all, I'm only observing a pattern that I don't like. It's the same shit, different decade, and now I know for a fact, as a fan, I'm being lied to about personnel decisions, or at least given only the smallest iota of truth, which in all honesty would be fine if the results of these decisions were bearing a decent crop of tangible fruit. But I've seen the results, and I've seen what they call fruit, so now all I can offer is cynicism. If they'd broken this pattern and done something different I might have something different to say, and I might've even researched whoever it was they picked, but now it's pointless.

Yes, this season the run defense stunk. They lost Tuitt and Alualu, and The Cat Killer looked like he retired after his knee injury. But, for most of Tomlin’s tenure, the defense has been really, really go.
So, whatever Tomlin has been doing (calling the plays, making halftime adjustments) I am fine with.
