According to the statisticians rules: Huntley recovered his own fumble untouched and tried to advance the ball. Watt then sacked him and stripped the ball. According to the rule book, that should be a sack.
I see it as a sack because the moment the quarterback got up off the turf to throw or advance the ball, it was a sack. The fact that Watt was able to force a fumble shows the quarterback's effort to advance or throw the ball. If the quarterback wasn't trying to do anything with the ball, he would have stayed on the ground and been down by contact as soon as TJ touched him. If the quarterback is no longer down, he is trying to make a play....and it should be a sack IMO.
It was a muffed snap fumble. The QB did not fumble the ball initially but was the one that recovered the fumble. I THINK at that point it is no longer a play by design and therefore the player cannot be ‘sacked’. I think something similar happened in a Titans game this season. The snap hit the man in motion resulting in a fumble. The QB recovered and was immediately tackled. It was not a sack. The only difference being the subsequent fumble by the QB today.
I am by no means a rules expert and do not claim to be. Just explaining why I think it was not counted as a sack.
It was not a fumble to start ..just a bad snap by center ,qb tried to get up stripped sack by tj...it should be overturned

Ben said about 4 times "I hope the NFL gives TJ Watt a half a sack" in his post game press conference

Aborted snap / QB slipped on the wet turf, Dong sack!
It is the annual TJ slight. And, after every slight, TJ returns and gets better. Ergo, I expect 32 sacks in the 2023 season.![]()
