NFL Playoff Machine-- Steeler Path to the Playoffs

I was playing with this today as I watched the end of Bucs vs Bills and 49er vs Bengals.... both thrillers by the way.

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/playoffs/machine

Now I usually rely on someone smarter than me to explain WHO TO ROOT FOR * Cough* (Teegre). lol

But Bengals loss was good for us.
Bills loss was good for us
Raiders loss was good for us.
Ravens loss to Browns? I am not sure.

I really actually started this thread to nudge Teegre to spell it out for us.

I bet that by Monday the stats will give the Steelers a 3 % chance of making the playoffs, or less.

Enjoy watching the final 4 games of Ben's career, as its the end of an era. Then get ready for the draft.

I got a feeling we're making the playoffs since AFC is so jumbled up in the middle. And no one is emerging as in the North.

Don't lose another game. That depends on the team not playing like goat shit for three quarters. Which is tough.

Fire Canada and they have a shot. Keep Canada and prepare for the draft. I'm not saying the offensive playcalling is the only problem, but it handcuffs the offense from staying in games when the defense is porous.

7-9-1 is what I think they finish up at. Still going to enjoy watching the season play out.

Not only that. Get some real tacking drills going in practice and let butler get a chance to do what he’s paid to do without interference from Tomlin. Still find it hard to believe a former linebacker can’t get two physically talented ILB’s to play better than this.

Tomlin’s alleged handling of the defense is one of the less talked about things that has this team hamstrung

I look forward to posting this later in the week.

btw: As far as Ravens-Browns went, it was a draw as far as “for whom to have rooted”. Since we had lost to the Browns, but had already beaten the Ravens, it might be easier to pass the Ravens; plus, the Ravens play the Packers next week (which means there’s a realistic possibility we catch them). On the other hand, the Browns had the worse record… which normally made them easier to pass.

It was essentially a coin flip… and I know that I was rooting against the Ravens.

10-6-1 will pretty much lock us in

9-7-1 we will need some help

Realistically , we can only afford to lose one more game.
and we got to win against our division rivals.

So the Chiefs game is the only game they can afford to lose.

I think they have a chance of beating either the Titans or Browns at home game in Pittsburgh, but not both. I cant see them winning in KC vs the Chiefs or in Baltimore vs the Ravens.

Its very likely that the Steelers are underdogs in all of those games.

The one thing that is predictable about the Steelers this year is that they are unpredictable. They could go 0-4 or 4-0.

Playoffs ?!! LOL I think the best thing for this team is to lose all remaining games, have 'losing' season, which may open some eyes in the FO, make some seats HOT and possibly force some changes to be made.......from TOP down !!!! Ben retiring won't be the only thing needed.

Yeah I'm predicting 1-3 from here on out. The home games seem winnable but still a 50/50 shot for both. This year's team has been bad on the road, and especially playing the Chiefs and Ravens on the road, I don't see wins there.

Yeah, I am hoping the Steelers can contain the run against the Browns and keep it close down the stretch. Baker Mayfield is currently ranked 30th in QBR in the 4th quarter, so keep it close down the stretch and Baker can possibly hand a win to the Steelers. But the other 3 games, I am not really sure they will be in it.

It totally wouldn't shock me if this team went 3-1 and snuck into the playoffs; beating the Titans, Browns and Ravens; all flawed/injured teams.

KC we will play them close with a chance to win, this is how a Tomlin coached steeler team rolls - playing their best when everyone counts them out. One thing i will give Tomlin props for is being a master motivator. These see-saw type seasons are just tough on the fans....the ravens game and the second half of the vikings game showed what this team is capable of.....

If that happens, I will post "Steeler-in-west is my Daddy" in my sig for a year. OR "The Window Is Still Open". But I dont think I will have to do that.

Re: NFL Playoff Machine-- Steeler Path to the Playoffs

3-1 gets us in and maybe even the division honestly. Nobody in the AFCN has an easy schedule to finish out. The Ravens are playing terrible right now as are the Browns. The Bengals have basically the same schedule as us aside from the Broncos/Titans difference. I see the Colts going 2-2 so 3-1 gets us in over them. So basically this week is a must win (cause I don’t see us beating the Chiefs who are peaking right now). We got the benefit of a long break so we should be mostly healed up and ready to go vs the Titans.

ha ha, sounds good.....we will see, like others have also mentioned this team is unpredictable - many of us even counted Ben as finished - which also turned out to be not true -

it's ludicrous to think that if things fall right the steelers can actually get in as the 4th seed and only have to win 2 games out of the last 4 to do so...

they can lose to the titans and chiefs but win against the browns and ravens.... all they would need is a raider upset of the browns and the browns to beat the bengals in the final week... ludicrous. the rest of the games would have to only play out as win percentage actually winning the other games over the final 4 weeks.

Oh, absolutely!!! A few weeks back, I was doing the math, and it’s crazy how few games the winner of the AFC North will “need” in order to win the division. I’m currently hoping for everyone to have 8 wins… and the tie gives is the 4th seed.

Chubb is averaging 5.5 ypc. Browns are 4th best at rushing. Mayfield being hurt (torn labrum etc) helps them I think- forcing them to attack the Steelers biggest weakness.

I think the Steelers will go 2-2 with wins over the Titans and Ravens. I think the Ravens will be resting their starters and that's kind of our Super Bowl now. Will be Ben's last game ever too which is so sad. That's wild to think about.

I agree they beat Ravens and Titans. Mahomes puts up 45 points Steelers get crushed. it comes down to Browns. Sell out on run and make Baker beat them. So your saying there’s a chance.

yes, kind of like rematch with the colts when we got throttled during season but won in AFC championship in 2006. Still can’t believe Polamalu wasn’t given an interception. That play and Jesse James “no catch “ against the cheats were travesties.

Can we get another toe-nail tackle by Ben to save the game???

I still say that if the Jesse TD stands, we roll through the playoffs. That loss broke their psyche... and had the entire team (and most of the FANS) overlooking the Jaguars.

I never looked past the Jaguars, that team always had our number for some reason. Every time we play them it's never an easy out, and often vs them is when Ben would have his 4+ INT games
