    Twitter hates Freiermuth???

Before we even begin, I’m not sure why I look at Twitter.

SANE_STEEL: Muth is a great TE.

STEEL_WHINE: Eff him. He cost us the Lions game.

CURMUDGEONER: Yep, and he should have caught that touchdown against the Vikings. He’s soft!!!

    DUMB415GUY: Waste of a pick.

Have they lost their effing kinds!?!

We'll know that Freiermuth has "arrived" when Still Mill gives him a sophomoric nickname.

    His latest is "Sitter Watt."

    Screenshot or it didn't happen.

Clearly Harrison Smith made a great play to punch that pass out at exactly the right time. He's been a great safety for a long time.

I agree that anyone who thinks Freiermuth is a bad pick is nuts. He's catching 75% of targets and has 7 TD in 8 starts. He has great hands.

I definitely understand also that some people wanted Creed Humphrey with that pick and that PFF rated Humphrey as the best C in the NFL. A lot of people wanted him before the draft I remember. I would imagine anyone who hates Freiermuth has an existing bias because they wanted a different player there. It's probably like sports analysts who want certain players to fail or succeed because of hot takes they have made about them.

Bwahahaha Does Mill still think that Harrison should be starting instead of Watt?

Yep Outstanding play by Harrison Smith.

We have all discussed the Creed vs. Freiermuth pick in R2. FWIW, most people here feel Freiermuth was the correct pick. But, even the people who would have preferred Humphrey can readily see the value of Freiermuth.

But, for whatever reason, there’s a hive mind out there on Twitter that feels obligated to pick Freiermuth apart. It’s odd. I get wanting Humphrey… he’s freakin’ amazing!!! What I do not get is the attack on Freiermuth. As Brian Regan once said, “Both can be favorites.”

Maybe Mill cloned himself (or has dozens of burner accounts).

Thank you for another affirmation to not get on Twitter. I was starting to weaken...but dear lord.

I will own that I had serious reservations and expressed them here often about the drafting of a TE. And this TE specifically. PF has proven me mostly wrong. He can get open in the NFL. While he may never be just running away from guys down the seam, he has no problem creating enough separation to be a playmaker in the passing game. I still have concerns about his blocking...but that is the same concerns that always happen for just about every rookie TE ever. They all get better. So will PF. He clearly wants to block and has a better base of fundamentals to build from than many others at the TE position recently for the Steelers.

I look forward to watching him play TE for the next decade or so.

I think the Pony dung express was even blaming PatFry for not making that catch.

He was never on SF or SU - he was always on Stillers.com (teegre was actually BANNED from that forum for having the nerve to CELEBRATE after the Steelers won SB XLIII).

Still Mill is the one who originally coined the term "Dong Sack." He's a legend (in his own mind)!

He did make the catch. Its just that some former Notre Dame Safety happened to also be trying really hard and chopped the ball out of his arms before Muth even hit the ground.

Ben said afterwards that Muth took it hard and had to be consoled in the locker room because he definitely thought he should have caught it.

gotta love the guy, we need more players like him on the team.

He caught it with his hands, which is usually preferable, but in a tight window like that and a defender ready to hit you, might have been better to catch it using more of the body to better absorb the impact

he’s already got 7 TD’s, that’s one more than Miller had in his rookie year. 100 more receiving yards and he exceeds Miller’s rookie year total there too. All this with an old-end of the line Ben throwing to him….

Honestly, that goes against everything that you teach a young player when teaching to receive a football. Learn to catch with your hands and you get receivers with great hands. Learn to catch with your body and you get Sammie Coates and Eric Ebron type receivers.

The young man made a great catch, but Harrison Smith made a great play to chop the ball out before he could get the ball pressed up against his torso and secured.

I know what your saying saying and it’s mostly true but at certain times you have cradle that thing to absorb a hit - seems that was his only chance to make that catch, how else could he hold onto that ball?

If a guy runs a 4.5 -40 yard dash its around 22mph. So lets say that Muth is running around 20mph. Do you think he has the ability to speed up, so that the football doesnt hit him in the hands, but rather closer to his chest? Do you think that if he could make that adjustment, that there is a greater likelyhood that he takes the ball of his chestplate and it bounces off incomplete?

He extended his hands, to make the catch while in the midst of 3 defenders and as the below pictures show he was cradling it close to his body until one of the best safeties in the NFL chopped it out and made a great play.

Even though it was not a TD...it is possible for everything involved in the play to be really darn good. Route? Throw? Catch? Punch out? All were everything anyone could have wanted. It is just that the punch out was the last thing in the sequence.

I gotta maybe take a break from posting/reading around here....I'm gonna start calling people names and being more of jerk than usual...but sheesh...this is getting a bit tiresome.

It is possible to do a great many things right and still lose an NFL game.

Blame the physical trainers. Freiermuth has week hands and arms. If he was trained properly, he would’ve had the strength and been able to hold onto that ball.

that’s a good run down, thanks. I see your point, he made the best catch he could in that situation, he was actually bringing it into his body pretty quickly but the defender got their too soon ….for us. I hate giving credit to the opponent but in this case I have to: it was a great play by the safety, And PF is going to have a great career with the Steelers- I can see it.

We’re just discussing if there was any possible way he could’ve held onto that ball, No one said PF made a bad play or was weak or was poorly trained, sheesh, that’s your interpretation…

when people continually make stupid tweets I would always just "unfollow" ... let them talk and let natural selection run its course
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar
