Kozora: The Steelers' Defense Has lost Its Personality

This year's Pittsburgh Steelers? They've got lots of problems. Their offense has zero identity. And their defense has no personality.

Well, when your offense is only good for one touchdown a game, you have to try to make something happen. I think The Defense is breaking down trying to make splash plays.

We've seen this before from really good Steelers defenses. It is exactly what Edman said. They are trying to play not only perfect defense, but "win the game" defense. Leads to doing less through trying to do more. I suspect it comes from a total lack of confidence that the offense can function.

Since James Harrison is the new sage for all things Steelers, he used to talk about it all the time. Aaron Smith and Troy would get injured. The defense would get gashed and Harrison would talk about doing too much instead of just playing their assignments.

and when the ref's call back a blocked FG that went for a TD (that wasn't a penalty), it adds to the suck.

I can't blame much on the defense, when the offense is barely getting 24 minutes time of possession per game, they're going to be worn out

Yep that had a huge impact on the game. I'm not saying we win because of it but being up 17-14 at the half is way different than being down 17-10.

The Steelers' only win this season were a direct result of a big Special Teams/Defensive touchdown.

Relying on big defensive/ special teams scores to win games is not sustainable. This isn't a case of an Offense moving but being bogged down to field goals in the red zone. The Offense is not even working. No sustained drives or time of possession that flips the field. They're going 3 and outs constantly and barely moving the ball.
