    Free Agents

Not sure on our exact number of cap space, but if they make a couple more moves they might free up enough space to make a couple offers. There's 2 names out there that I was most intrigued by...

    1. Jadeveon Clowney...Clowney is 28 and coming off a season where he didn't register a sack. I believe he still has some left in the tank and his market value is only 6-7 mill. He would be a great fit and would definitely bring some competition to the ROLB position.

    2. Kwon Alexander...Kwon is coming off a season ending achilles tear that happened in December of last year. From what I've read it takes at least 6 months to recover. If all goes well, he'd be able to return right around camp time. Could be had for a bargain price, but he has been very injury prone...when healthy Kwon is a very good linebacker that can run sideline to sideline. Would make a nice pairing with Devin Bush.

Clowney is overrated. He gets a ton of mileage off of that thunderous hit in the bowl game against Michigan years ago and being a former no. 1 pick and people still assume he is good. Kwon I would give a try. Still don't know why they released Vince just to save slightly above $3 million

I don't think they're done making moves. Imo, Haden or Ebron will be next to go.

Clowney comes fairly cheap. It would also save us from having to spend a draft pick on an edge guy. At worst, he'd be a great rotational guy for a season.

cut Ebron , sign Gerald Everett. I’m not much for googling salary caps so it may not be possible. Ebron isn’t awful but Everett an upgrade IMO.

Clowney can't be that cheap. Last year, he held out for a contract until September and still got $12 million

According to spotrac.com Clowney's value is 6.5 mill. I'm sure he will be on a 1 year prove it deal. You may be right though. The name alone might get him a few extra dollars.

    The Bears released Kyle Fuller.

I believe the Steelers were very high on him and he was a perfect schematic fit coming out of college.

Would you cut Haden for him though? That's basically what it would take.

I just stick with what we have for what may be almost an even swap.

The only benefit would be he's 3 years younger. If you can cut Haden and sign Fuller for the same $$$ then maybe. Why did the Bears cut him was it strictly about money or some other reason?

I'm not saying they need to sign him. This thread is about FA's, and Fuller was a player the team really wanted.

I think they should approach Haden and try to lower his cap hit. He's a quality player and a quality person. I think the team would prefer to keep him, but hard decisions need to be made and he could be a cap casualty.

    Re: Free Agents

I saw an article this morning that indicated the Steelers could have close to $120 million in available cap space next year, which is insane sounding to me. With Ben likely retiring after this upcoming season, I think the only current guys under contract heading into 2022 as of now making really big money (meaning greater than $10 Million per year) are Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt. The Steelers will extend TJ on a massive deal I am sure, and I would think they would likely give Minkah a big deal as well, but they should still have plenty of money next offseason. At this point, I would like to see them extend Steven Nelson and reduce his cap hit this season to free up some more money this year.

I know not everyone is in agreement on having JuJu stay with the team, but I personally would like them to resign him if they can get him at around 4 years/48 million.

What? That seems odd that he would request a trade. I wonder if the team asked him to take a pay cut....that is the only thing I can think of that would trigger him requesting a trade.

    _____________

    UPDATE:
I just read the news that the team has given him permission to seek a trade. I still wonder what happened. Either the team asked him to take a straight-up pay cut which I doubt they would have done, or he feels he is outperforming his current contract and is asking for a raise now for this upcoming season.

Is Mackensie Alexander still everyone's favorite from that class? Is he still the best lockdown CB? Because he is available right now.

Well, that is dumb, does he realize there is no money out there right now? His best option would be to play for a contract next season like everyone else is doing.

BINGO!!! Free agents are having to settle for one-year deals; players are being cut left & right; teams are scrambling to get under a reduced cap... yet, Nelson demands more than $14.5 million.

Maybe the steelers are just being sly. Maybe they don't intend to cut him after all . Maybe they figure his agent will convince him that his bet is to ball out this year and then hit the free agent market next. year

if Nelson leaves, why not sign one of these 30+ CBs to a one-year deal?

There is always that possibility. Basically say, "Sure. Go find someone who wants to pay whatever it is that your asking for." Then when that goes over like a wet fart, Nelson sucks it up and sticks around? Who knows...unlike almost every other organization, the Steelers rarely leak on these issues. We will likely never know the exact story.
