Auburn WR Anthony Schwartz Says He Has Virtual Meeting With Steelers

With draft season still impacted by COVID, most teams will interact with prospects virtually. We know at least one player the Pittsburgh Steelers have met with or will meet with virtually before April’s main event. According to this tweet from Justin Melo, WR Anthony Schwartz has an interview with the team.

Back on topic, Schwartz has been the talk of the town the past 48 hours. He’s abuzz on Twitter, and he’s met with a dozen different teams. The “pick du jour” if you will.

The Steelers are hell-bent on getting that end around to work.

They could definitely use a 4.3 guy in the WR room. This guy can fly.

They only did this to cover the Art Rooney Goldberg rule.

Can't argue with the Steelers drafting receivers. They've hit on so many.

I wouldn't call Coates, Washington, Ayers, J.Brown, or Wheaton misses. They all produced. I'd like to see a comparison to other NFL teams drafted WRs since 2005. If the Steelers draft one position well...it's gotta be WRs.

James Washington is far from a bust , hell one could argue when the chips where down he was the teams most reliable receiver , granted he lacked reps but he delivered when called upon ... I would bet he had one of the lower drop percentages on the team
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles problem now

The Farmer isn't a miss. If juju leaves, Farmer will get alot more snaps.

Wouldn’t call him a hit by my definition but sure...move him to the hit department. Still leaves a lot of “misses”.

I agree. The only thing is that his route running ability hasn't gotten better as I would have hoped. He runs the 7-8-9 well and as you mention probably the best hands of the WR's, along with JuJu. He was a guy coming out of college that was strong at making contested catches and has done that in the clutch. He doesnt get in and out of breaks as quickly as some of the other guys and if the offense was all about short hooks, curls, slants and crossing routes....that isnt his strong suit.

Maybe the new OC will run some patterns like deeper dig routes and stuff where JW can be more impactful on the outside.

Sure, every team has some guys that dont pan out. Willie Reid(R3), Fred Gibson(R4).

But to chalk up a list of WR's selected in the 6th and 7th round as draft misses is almost like complaining to a talent scout that they missed on signing Rebel Wilson, because she didn't make a swimsuit edition of SI.

    -Tony Clemons (R7 pick)
    -Demarcus Ayers (R7)
    -Justin Brown (R6)
    -Dallas Baker (R7)

Re: Auburn WR Anthony Schwartz Says He Has Virtual Meeting With Steelers

Twitter was having a discussion about teams and WRs. The Steelers was the clear-cut consensus choice as the #1 "receiver team". No one (not even argumentative Taperiots fans) disagreed with giving that title to the Steelers.

The debate started at #2 between the Bengals and the Packers.

A Rodgers please. He's our slot guy
The last time the Steelers won a playoff game it was 2016. That is six years ago. We are keeping the Jets and Lions company. The standard remains the standard.

They discovered Eli Rodgers when they were watching tape of DeVante Parker.

and if I recall correctly, Rodgers was a UDFA that showed better quickness, route running and hands than 7th round pick Demarcus Ayers in the same rookie training camp. Not much difference between a guy you pick in the 7th vs a guy you sign as undrafted.

As Cowher used to say, "Once camp starts, where you were drafted does NOT matter."

True. Once the money has been spent and the contract signed, the best guy should get the spot. But we know that if a team spends a #1 pick on a guy they really want to see him make good on the "potential", so they often get more rope than a UDFA in the learning curve.

I just cant call a guy drafted in the 7th round that doesnt make the 53, a "miss" by the scouting dept.
