    Kyle Trask

Kyle Trask is a borderline 1st round pick that may also very well fall to the Steelers' 2nd round pick at 55th overall.

Do you think the Steelers should take him at 2? Isn’t he Mason Rudolph?

I don't know the answer to that. IF the Steelers do draft a QB Trask may be the best of what's left at 55. I don't wish to see a QB at 24, I think I have made that point be known. Trask is a bit like Rudolph. He has been a very good college QB. He put up very good stats and had a great amount of success. Trask was the #3 QB in the Heisman race behind Lawrence and Jones and 4th overall. The only knock I find on Trask is his arm strength is in question, but his accuracy is among the best. I don't think the Steelers will take a QB in this draft but if they do, Trask is probably the one.

All we can do is watch his in-game performance and try to learn who he could be.

    Re: Kyle Trask

I keep seeing people on this forum comparing Kyle Trask as a Mason Rudolph Clone. I'm actually concerned none of you actually looked at any of the Trask game film before asking that question. Did Trask benefit from Dan Mullen's system the way Rudolph benefitted from Van Gundy's system? Probably the answer is yes. But let's start with the fact that Trask beat out the already starter at Florida before succeeding in that system.

I ask that you go look at the game film(s) in post #1. Watch those. Then go look up some of MR's college games and watch those. Very little comparison really if you watch the QBs before snap reads, pocket awareness, and post snap reads. MR probably has the better overall arm talent. But I think Trask wins in every other catagory.

And for those that follow the Bill Parcells rules:

I think the comparison is the 3rd round system QB with a medium ceiling. Beyond that, I didn't see him much except the SEC Championship where he stunk.

For some probably. I think of Trask as a 2nd round system QB with a higher than medium ceiling. You should maybe watch a little more. Form an honest and accurate opinion for yourself. I don't ask that you agree with 'me', only that you look first.

From a QB type standpoint, I'd rather see a dual threat QB like Newman taken if we don't get into tier 1.

I'm still not completely done with Trask. I think his upside greatly out-shines any negatives that can be pointed to.

Then David Mills is your man.
The last time the Steelers won a playoff game it was 2016. That is six years ago. We are keeping the Jets and Lions company. The standard remains the standard.

No way I take him at 24, at 55, maybe, just better have the right OC on staff, in the 3rd round if he is available that would be too hard to pass up

I agree at 55. It would be tough to pass on him if there at 55. ONLY because the position is so important. Not really a need for him this season but better to have too many starting QBs than too few, IMO. I will be somewhat surprised if Trask is still there at 55 but would be shocked if he's there at 80something in the 3rd. In post#1 I posted several game films to watch including the first qtr of the Cotton Bowl where he threw 3 INTs. I think everyone should take a look at those(not that much time involved really, only the Trask passing plays and QB runs.) before passing total judgement on this guy. Having looked at the other QBs, Trask is actually MY #2 QB in this draft.

Great way to break down a QBs talent, reads, and feel for the play.

I only watched the first 2 play breakdowns from this guy.

Play 1. He gives Trask a lot of credit for making a read on a fake bubble screen with vertical route in "0-coverage". There is really no read as the #2 WR isnt blocking anybody, he is just running the 9 and the slot WR doesn't have any space because A&M has 4 defenders vs 3WR on that side. Honestly nice play design and the QB knows before the snap that his throw is the deep ball. That is why he doesnt even pump the bubble screen when the narrator thinks he will.

Play 2. He breaks down a designed rollout to the right, with 3 options. (15 yard corner, 5 yard out, or QB keep) The play is likely designed for a backside throw to Pitts, which should be the only way Trask is looking there, as the 5 yard out is wide open or he keeps it and gets the RB running the open short route to block. Really bad decision by Trask to throw across the field into multiple coverages. Terrible to not read the guy right in front of you on a rollout.

I dont think the Steelers are in on a QB this draft, but if they are, I hope its several other guys than Trask.
