    The state of our secondary

As free agency is upon us, I thought I take a look at the state of our secondary.

Edmunds is still below par. Yeah, two passes went his way this year for easy picks, but the man takes horrible angles and can't tackle well. He's also a free agent with next to no depth behind him. Do we re-sign him? For cheap, we might have to. If he gets a good deal, we are not in a position to match and will be spending a high draft pick to replace him or keep Sean Davis. No option here is ideal.

Joe Haden will be 32 in April. No way is he worth 15.5 million next year, but our options suck as Lewis, who was passed by a no-name player, can't replace him. Pierre, the man who passed Lewis on the depth chart, is tall, and was productive at FAU, but he also ran a 4.59 and had an underwhelming pro day. He might be a free safety project if the Steelers try him there.

Both Sutton and Haden are two good complementary role players Sutton the better coverage guy outside the hashmarks, Hilton the better slot guy, and brings extra value as a blitzer and tackler. Both players are free agents this season, which means we might lose them both.

Nelson is a little better than okay with our pass rush. The 14.2 Million cap number for 2021 is not and next year, you guessed it, he's a free agent too this March. Fitzpatrick didn't have quite the season he had last year, but he's still very good player and signed for cheap ( for now ).

In two years, Haden will also need to be replaced.

The bitch of it is, we have bigger needs at OL and QB. I expect a 3rd-5th round pick to be spent on a DB and maybe a late pick. Perhaps the Steelers can sign a free agent to replace one of our free agent losses, but whomever we pick up likely won't be as good as we lost. That's not enough for now, or the future. The OL has age issues and many free agents, that should be a focus in 2021. The DB focus will be 2022.
The last time the Steelers won a playoff game it was 2016. That is six years ago. We are keeping the Jets and Lions company. The standard remains the standard.

I watched all the games this year. I even went to the steelers.com website. But I cant recall this Lewis guy you mention. Can you please provide a link or breakdown of his film, as I am curious to know his measurables, college background, etc.

    Thanks.

OK, thanks for the possible answer.

What about Jerry Lewis from "Remember the Titans". probably past his prime by now, so the Steelers should avoid him.

Just because I'm immature and stupid doesn't mean I am less than half a century old. I'm older than I sound!

By the way, Ron Shanklin was my favorite player at that time.

Here's the thing, old pal, I don't think you copied stuff, I know you did. And I proved it for everyone else to see. Now they know too. The only person who doesn't seem to acknowledge that you are copy and paste artist that lies about it is you. So as long as we have that established...you can call me a stalker all you want. Won't change that you are a known liar.

Well, back on topic, since we really only need to worry about cap issues this season (assuming next season will be back to normal) we could easily sign Hilton, Sutton and Layne to extensions with more guaranteed $ over signing bonus $ and keep them, basically pushing the $ past this next season where we will have far less cap issue without Ben’s cap hit.

    BINGO!!!

Re-sign both Hilton and Sutton. Give them a nice signing bonus, and then pay them $1 million this season. They have their bonuses (instant money that can simultaneously be deferred against the cap as long as they remain on the Steelers), and Omar Khan pushes the rest of their contract into years two, three, & four (when our current high-priced players are off of the books).
