    Nope.

But it does look pretty stupid to sit around circle-jerking each other all day for being clueless.
Not sure what to say about that?

then you need to reexamine the things you pay for ....

every utility has fee's surcharges and taxes built in prior to being " taxed"

gasoline in most states have close to $1 or more in tax built into the price per gallon

cigarettes , alcohol have a base tax built into them before they place the sales tax on the entire price ( including the already added tax that is being now taxed again )

sales tax on damn near everything

    convenience tax

    luxury tax

    state income tax

    federal income tax

    inheritance tax

    capital gains tax

    property tax

    county tax

    state tax

    school taxes

    road tax

and the list goes on and on and on for gods sakes and that is BEFORE they nail you with licensing that in reality is just another form of tax ..conceal carry , hunting , fishing , driving , license plates , boat registration , registration for the trailer that hauls the boat etc etc etc

ohh and all those items you snagged at Walmart last week part of the price you paid for them was built in repayment of the tax walmart was going to pay once you bought the item just another example of hidden tax

re evaluate and then tell us how half of your earned income does not go to some sort of tax or hidden tax

Half of my income, earned or otherwise, does not go to some sort of tax or hidden tax. Now, to be honest, I am a disabled vet so I'm exempt from several taxes or pay at a reduced rate.

Inheritance (death) tax when you die.

Sounds like many of you should consider relocation. Don't like the tax burden in your state or local area - then move to one that suits you better.

The taxes and fees I pay where I live are completely reasonable for the services and infrastructure I get to access in return. All the local roads are in pretty good shape, they clean the streets, plow the snow, school system is top-notch, etc.

Everywhere I am aware of, sure I am not thinking of somewhere, where they have tried lower taxes has turned into a total crapshow that no one wants to live in. Ask Kansas.

Further, all the "hidden taxes" via fees and whatnot are mostly so state politicos can tell us that they didn't raise taxes even though they know that they absolutely have to in order to make enough revenue to keep the lights on. So, lower taxes and hike fees and increase the number of things that need permits or licenses.

Those are powerful reasons to stay...but not insurmountable.

20 years ago, I moved halfway across the country to a place where I knew no one and had no family because it was the best opportunity for me to do what I wanted to do.

Roughly 2 decades before that, my father and mother did the same thing,

2 generations before them, all my ancestors moved a world away to where they knew no one and had nothing because it was better than where they were.

If it is really as bad as you say where you live, vote with your feet. Move to where you are best positioned for success.

If that doesn't work, then stay where you are and run for local office. Propose the needed changes to the local fees and taxes.

In the next few years, I will almost certainly have to move from my current location and will have to weigh all the hidden costs of living you identified with wherever we go to next. It is a constant balancing act.

Bought a lot in eastern Tennessee a month ago. cant wait to leave CA and take pension and 457 account with me. Most don’t have the luxury and are stuck in this cesspool. Tennessee and Florida much better off than CA economic wise. I’m sure Texas, South Dakota, Wyoming and Alaska as well. The states mentioned have no state income tax and lower property taxes as well. The problem is spending. ca gets bailed out of budget deficit and gives a stimulus for illegals and those making less than 50,000. Its a joke, no incentive to get a job. Middle class is getting phased out in Ca. Socialism is here.

Here, I will try to illustrate it in terms that even someone with your low intelligence can understand.

Imagine that one day while you are walking along on your feet and knuckles, you come across a pile of 10 bananas. Pretty cool! Bananas are your favorite. But then your trainer comes in and says he'll be taking three bananas because he needs them to pay for cage maintenance. So you climb on top of a big rock and beat your chest and make ape noises that mean "Look at me! I have seven bananas! This is the greatest!"

Then the trainer comes back and wants another banana for cage maintenance, and the other dumb apes shout "It's no big deal, what are you complaining about! Give him the banana, stupid!" So you give him the banana and stand on the rock pounding your chest some more. "Look at me, now I have six bananas, I am the greatest!"

Then the trainer comes back and takes another banana for cage maintenance, and the other dumb apes shout "It's fine! The trainer is a great guy! You can do more!" So you get back on the rock and pound your chest and shout "Look at me! I have five bananas! I am so smart!"

Meanwhile, one of the other apes climbs up the bars where they overlook the trainer's house, and he says "Hey! He isn't using the bananas for cage maintenance, he's just eating them himself and making banana splits for his friends! And by the way, this cage kind of sucks too! This guy is a jerk!" But the other apes don't believe it because they never bothered to climb up there, and they don't know what a cage is and they're too dumb to understand. So they shout at him, "Shut up, you're just a stupid ape! The trainer knows best, so give him your bananas and quit complaining!"

See? Now there's a story in terms you ought to relate to.

But as usual, you are still stuck at the starting gate, daydreaming in your fantasy land where everyone else is miserable with imaginary problems, and they are too paralyzed with fear to do anything themselves except huddle there waiting for the government to save them. But you, the Big Strong Liberal, you have got it all figured out and you are happy! Happy, god dammit! Look at me being so happy! It would be impossible, of course, for anyone else to simultaneously have their own shit together and also know that the government is screwing them. That would require doing two things at once - which is a bit much for an ape brain to comprehend, so I guess it makes sense in that respect.

Yes I do. I just don't pay taxes on my VA Compensation. I pay the same taxes as everybody else on my regular income. However, I get a property tax exemption. I don't pay an excise tax on my automobile. I get a rebate from the VA when I buy a car. I get an annuity which is payable biannually from the state. But anyone can get the same benefits if they join the military, go to a combat zone, and get wounded severely enough. So, reduce your tax exposure, join the Army or Marine Corps.

And BTW, the wealthiest people in the US should be paying more taxes. A lot more.

No. When they were paying more in taxes, like in the 50s, 60s, we were creating jobs up the ass.

It's called responsibility. Paying your dues. You know, all those things conservatives don't want anything to do with.

BTW, if clues only cost a quarter you'd have one, but clearly you don't.

I believe the topic is taxes not animal pictures or some Tom person.

Back when America was America people paid their dues in this country. They weren't looking for ways to dodge their responsibilities like Ex President Trump. If we want that America to return we need to be responsible again. If we want to upgrade our infrastructure we need to pay our dues. If we want to take on climate change we need to pay our dues. If we want to protect ourselves from pandemics we need to pay our dues.

Why? They already pay more taxes than the average person. Why should they pay a lot more? I'm interested in your reasoning for this.

It really depends on how you look at it. In EARNED income (so wages and whatnot), the top tax brackets are taxed at a higher rate. BUT...what about UNEARNED income (investments and all that)? That is taxed at a rate far lower (roughly 20% lower) than your wages and mine.

So if I make a billion dollars a year but $700 million is form investments that is taxed at a lower rate than the "average joe or jane's" wages.

There is a long and detailed discussion here (https://www.vox.com/policy-and-polit...-rates-top-400) , but because the sources are either VOX or the NYT, no one will believe it. Here is the key graphic:

Basically says that the top few hundred people in the country pay less than almost anyone else and hold something like a quarter or third of the wealth in the country. Basically the major percentage of their annual income isn't treated like wages and salaries so it gets taxed far less.

This is only for individuals. There is a whole other set of points about "wealthy" paying when we discuss how far too many corporations skate on their taxes.

one can make what they want of it but personally I do not care if cooperation get by with paying less taxes as long as they are providing work opportunities that in turn pay taxes and put food on the table for millions of Americans ...we have seen what raising cooperate tax bases bring and that is companies moving off shore and the jobs going with them ...

Obama said those jobs are never coming back ( he was right under his and other administrations rules) but they did come back once the rules changed , now they will be leaving again as long as this administration keeps incentivizing staying home with increased unemployment benefits , extended benefits and increased food stamps when almost every business I walk into has a help wanted sign on the door ... people are not out of work for a lack of jobs they are out of work because it pays to good to stay home

"...we have seen what raising cooperate tax bases bring and that is companies moving off shore and the jobs going with them ..."

    No.

Here’s The TRUE Reason US Companies Offshore Jobs

Most American companies engaged in offshoring say a shortage of skilled domestic employees — not cost cutting — is the primary reason why they move some job functions overseas.

Also, manufacturers and high-tech/telecommunication (NASDAQ:QQQQ) companies are less likely to establish offshore operations and are moving increasingly toward the use of third-party providers of offshore labor.

These are among the findings of the sixth annual study on corporations’ offshoring trends by the Center for International Business Education and Research’s Offshoring Research Network (ORN) at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and The Conference Board, an independent research association. The study is part of ongoing research into the effects of offshoring trends on American competitiveness and reflects the sentiments of business managers.

“Over half of the participants in our survey say offshoring has resulted in no change in the number of domestic jobs in most functions,” said
Arie Lewin, Fuqua professor of strategy and international business. “The finding that the U.S. software sector has the highest ratio of offshore to domestic employees — almost 13 offshored jobs per 100 domestic jobs — may be a reflection of a scarcity of domestic science and engineering graduates in the U.S.”

    Give a lib a fish--he eats for a day

Teach a lib to fish--he is back the next day asking for more free fish.

Take call centers or whatever you want to call where the phone rings when you call customer service. When/if they are based in the US, you can barely get high school grads to do that job. Massive turnover rate. High employee absentee rates and a fairly problematic substance abuse ratio in the employee pool as well.

Move that exact same job to India, Philippines, or the offshore venue of your choosing and PRESTO! College grads are competing to work for you. Absentee and substance abuse rates plummet. And...you have less oversight, regulation, and salary costs. So overall, you are paying less for better qualified employees.

That's the bottom line for off-shoring. Corporate tax rates don't matter. Heck, many companies in the US still pay (or at least what they can't dodge) domestic corporate taxes and still prefer to off-shore as much as they can because they have a skilled work-force that is willing to do the job for a ludicrously low wage.

Have a buddy who runs nursing homes and senior care facilities. They have to import nurses from all over the globe because US based nurses will not do the work. The US has a diverse and high wage enough economic base that people can simply choose to not work entry level jobs in a variety of fields. Jobs still need done...so as soon as the skilled labor pool gets good enough (talking basic literacy, math, and generally not being a totally non-industrialized place)...easier to move those jobs overseas.

It has been happening since about the 1600's. In fact...the US used to be "overseas".

    Ah, no it isn't.

It used to be, until the Internet boom of the 1990s made it a white-collar phenomenon, too. As economic globalization gathers speed and technology erases geographic boundaries, firms now have instant access to educated workers all over the planet, allowing enormous service companies and small businesses alike to hire Web designers in Thailand, graphics specialists in India, and seismologists in Pakistan. White-collar workers who once seemed immune to offshoring—lawyers, financial analysts, even local newspaper reporters—are now in peril of seeing their jobs shifted to India, Eastern Europe, or China. In recent years, 13 of every 100 U.S. computer-programming jobs shifted overseas, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, making it the most at-risk occupation in America. “Any job you can think of now can be done by someone on the other side of the world for less cost,” said Matt Barrie, CEO of Freelance.com, which matches employers and freelancers around the world.
