Go with Canada or bring someone else in. If someone else, who?

Do you have a link to where he was fired?
He won't be fired. He's at the end of his contract.
I was looking at some OCs earlier today actually. Some HCs and staff that lost jobs this season, a little bit into the college ranks but didn't get far. I think they will let the contract play out like they usually do. Then they will promote Canada form within. That's my thoughts what WILL happen. As to who I would want, I haven't decided yet.

In all seriousness screw this thread title, made me think for a split second that Fitch actually was fired
Randy Fichtner isn't fired.
The Steelers don't fire guys. They just don't renew their contracts. Randy's contract is expired.

It's going to be Canada. They rarely hire from the outside with coordinators.
Though there are two names I hope they interview if they do indeed look outside the org. Mike Kafka, the Chiefs QB coach/passing coordinator, and Matt Weiss the RB coach from the Ravens. (Joe Brady would be a dream, but he's going to be a head coach very soon)
1. Graham Barton, C, Duke 2. Ricky Pearsall, WR, Florida 3. Maason Smith, DT, LSU 3. Max Melton, CB, Rutgers 4. Blake Fisher, OT, Notre Dame 6. Tommy Eichenberg, ILB, Ohio State 6. MJ Devonshire, CB, Pittsburgh
Art Rooney II is dead...
...set on hiring a new OC.
Answer I want: Anthony Lynn
Answer I expect: Matt Canada
Answer I fear: Ray Sherman
Not sure of all the OC candidates, but literally anyone would be better than Fichtner
The OC is totally dependent on what the QB plan is moving forward.
If it is Ben R, then you would want one type of OC. Someone who can protect and scheme around an aging and diminished QB.
If it is Mason R, then you would want another type of OC. I think that guy is already in the building in Canada.
If it is "Prized Draft Pick", then you may need another type of OC that could develop the kid into the best version possible. That MIGHT be Canada or might be another candidate depending on the style of play from "Prized Draft Pick".
The problem, as I see it, is that Ben doesn't seem to want (or can't) to run/learn/whatever several aspects of current offensive scheming that would help both Mason R and "Prized Draft Pick". Specifically, play action and RPO. Those two types of plays would/could help Rudolph and any other young QB they bring in. But if Ben comes back, are they going to implement two offenses? One for Ben and one for the "developmental" QBs to learn? That does not sound like how any NFL team works.
I agree that the QB plan will shape the direction of the offense.
I think the team is at the point that they should no longer cater to Ben's wants or wishes though. Fichtner getting promoted to OC a couple years ago seemed to be done in deference to Ben after things soured with Haley. The team needs major improvement on offense, and if Ben is not onboard with making changes then he should not come back.
Of course , I suppose it is possible the Steelers keep Fichtner again to be the OC with Ben next year. God forbid that should happen......I am waiting to hear the words "Randy Fichtner's contract has expired and we thank him for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors".
My 9 year old daughter who hate FB could coordinate better than RF, hell my wife was asking wtf on the second watt run in the first. I guess we could keep RF (hear me out), go with teegre’s draft, lose 16 games (because RF is trash) and have the first pick the next draft for a QB
According to Dulac this morning, Canada will not be a candidate for OC. FWIW
We all know how this will actually go, Ben will be back, so they will sign/extend RF for another year, same with Conner and Pouncey, we will see the exact same offense we saw over the last 6 games and Tomlin will say something about dying on a vine again! 🤦🏻*♂️
I thought it actually happened when I saw the title of this thread.
Damn you!
I feel like Charlie Brown and Lucy just pulled away the football!
