We could have used you Ryan.
Fitzpatrick plays good for few weeks then completely implodes. Takes too much risks, tries too much and that usually starts avalanche. One mistake translates into another, that translates into a bad game, and so on. Stranger things have happened, but I don't think Ryan Fitzpatrick is the answer. 16 years and not a single playoff appearance. That tells something about the guy.

No
Ben needs to heal. He’s not planting his feet correctly, and he’s deathly scared of the pass rush (which I have NEVER seen from him).
I’d risk losing the next two games (to rest Ben), but that simply is not going to happen.
Yeah it is strange, one thing I'm seeing zero from him this year is extending the play and trying to throw downfield. Absolutely not even trying to do that. It's the main thing imo, that made Ben great in his career. He's never been the type of QB who could surgically pick apart a defense, he was more of a QB that picked up chunk yards
Speaking of injuries, I’m reeeeally concerned that both Feiler and Dotson suffered pec injuries. Okorafor went out also (although he returned at some point).
Start of season:
AV - Feiler - Pouncey - DeCastro - Banner
At one point last night:
AV - Haussensaussen - Pouncey - DeCastro - Hawkins
Fitzpatrick has been a journeyman his entire career, but you believe he would lead this team to the promised land?
There is nothing to discuss. The offensive line would still be struggling to run the ball and block in general. The receivers and tight end would still be dropping passes. The injuries would still be the injuries. What would make anyone think that Ryan Fitzpatrick would thrive and lead a team to a super bowl victory? He's never won anywhere.
This team needs to get healthy...period.
They need to start blocking better...period.
They need to catch the passes that hit them in the hands, chest, or stomach.....period.
Of course Ben needs to play better, but the QB position is impossible with nothing going right around you. He can't get away from 2 defenders and stiff arm another to complete passes all game anymore.
In case some didn't see the games and just bitch about them, Roethlisberger is getting rid of the ball in 2.18 seconds for the entire season....and he is still getting rushed or hit constantly. That's almost impossible to do, but the OL is somehow allowing that to happen. He has zero time to throw the ball down the field, and they can't run block. Injuries have not helped things, but the OL is not getting it done. They went 255 pass attempts without giving up a sack, because Big Ben has been getting rid of the ball so quickly to try to avoid going on IR. It's that simple.
They can't run the ball and they can't give the quarterback time to throw. When you combine that with running a quick, short-passing offense and they drop half the passes...it's a recipe for disaster. It doesn't work.
Garsh no. Fitzpatrick is like the most over-rated thirst trap in the NFL.
After sleeping on it, I am still on the side of father time just ate Ben Roethlisberger's remaining career. But I still don't want much to do with Fitzmagic.
Ryan Fitzpatrick may have evolved into one of the league's better backups, but he isn't a franchise QB. He has yet to put it all together for a full season. Put him in a playoff game and you will get the same performance out of him the Jets got in week 17 of 2015 against the Bills
no, we might’ve won the redskin game but Fitzpatrick doesn’t get you far in the playoffs even with our defense.
I’d rather have darnold, hoping that’s the course they take next year.
If we had Mahomes or Rodgers we would, not sure anyone else gets us over hump.
I meant as having him as a backup and kinda like with Wentz and Foles the year they won it.
after what we saw out of Rudolph and duck I wanted the Steelers to pickup a veteran QB like Fitzpatrick or Dalton to backup Ben, just in case. Apparently the Steelers felt confident in Ben’s arm and abilities and didn’t want to spend the money. I hope they still end up being right but having a Fitzpatrick like backup would be pretty good right now.
They didn't have the money to spend. Who should've been cut to free up the cap $$$ to chase a QB?
That’s not the title of the thread. The title is we win a Super Bowl with Fitzpatrick.
Rudolph and/or Dobbs could both “hold down the fort” while Ben was out. Meaning go .500. So could Fitzpatrick. None of them are winning a Super Bowl for the Steelers.
Well, all we have to do is beat Cincinnati on Monday night. Broken down Andy Dalton just beat them 30-7. I’m hoping Ben can take care of business and rest the remainder of the regular season. If Rudolph or duck were starting? With our banged up defense? I’m not so sure we could pull off the win.

So the new theory is that Andy Dalton would do what? Lose to Washington and Baltimore, but beat Cincy? https://www.pro-football-reference.c...D/DaltAn00.htm
I mean we are talking about this because Ben R looks old and broken down.Dalton has looked old and broken down for years now.
The guys on that list of 2020 QB FAs are not exactly a murder's row of guys that are better than Rudolph or Dobbs. I mean they might be...or they might just be terrible in a different way.
The guy I would have had interest in "finding out" about would have been Rosen. But they already tried that "project QB" rehab with Lynch...so I get why they didn't take another project on during an abbreviated off-season.
When you guys gonna realize that to fix the offensive woes, RF needs to be dumped in the Allegheny! Do any of you actually think any QB is going to makes this putrid offence run like a well oiled machine? Hell, we could have Mahomes right now and it would look no better other than him running for a few first downs!
