Also, per the CDC, the realistic death count is more like 60,000, not 341,000, so it's not even going to be close.

Note also the tripling of the US population in the meantime, meaning this is probably in the neighborhood of 5% as deadly at most.

In an unrelated story my wife and I enjoyed date night with dinner out at an actual local restaurant and then a movie to see WW84. Luckily we live in a region that takes the suggestions of the federal government and mixes in a bit of local common sense. Won't be enough vaccines for most of us until 2021 is basically over. So I wouldn't get your hopes up.

I am pessimistic by nature, so I hear that everyone hopes to have moved into general distribution of the vaccine by late spring early summer...but I think we all know that is a best case estimate. So I figure it will be the fall before "on demand" availability is out there.

Plus, during this window we should start getting data on how long the immunity lasts. I have read anywhere from weeks to months to years. No one has enough data to know.

I think there will be a massive backlash once people start to truly appreciate how long their wait for the vaccine will be and how short-term the protection offered by the vaccine may prove to be. Such a backlash may impact how effective the vaccine is for the "herd" if it results in people passing up on it due to low availability or lack of faith in its effectiveness. I mean we can't manage to convince people to keep measles and TB at bay due to a lack of trust in vaccines. This is going to go better?

Long, ranty story short...everyone seems to be talking like by the end of the first quarter of 2021, we can all just shrug this off and move on. I don't think it will happen. A toxic stew of lack of availability, lack of faith in the vaccine(s), and lack of willpower to deal with it all is going to mean a measurable percentage of the population has COVID for years to come. Cue...boiling the frog and controlling the population screeds in 3...2...1...

Should have had that attitude in March 2020, we'd be no worse off.

Could've saved a few tens of trillions of dollars in economic losses too, and not wasted an entire year of everybody's life.

Good to hear some healthcare workers getting their vaccines. Not exactly warp speed, but at least the first injection is completed for some.

If and when the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is improved, that should help speed things up, as I believe it is a single injection vaccine.

mRNA based therapies have been used in Cancer therapies for over 25 years. It also had some use in single gene therapies, but something about the rapid degradation of the mRNA seems to have not made it optimal. It is true that mRNA vaccines are a new technology in how vaccine is delivered, but when you understand how it works, it seems pretty basic. Here is a quick video from Philly Children's hospital that explains how it works. (both Pfizer and Moderna are mRNA vaccines).

Good for you. Do they advise you if its Pfizer or Moderna? Both are similar mRNA vaccines, but just curious if they let you know what they have to administer.
