Baseball was also bigger than the NFL in the 1970s too. My mom tried to convert me to a Dolphins fan after we moved out of Pittsburgh, but it never stuck. In fact, I always went for any team they played except if it was the Raiders and then I prayed for a meteorite strike.
The 1990s Cowboys/49ers and the big guaranteed satellite tv contracts changed professional sports on tv. I remember how many Dolphin games got blacked out before that because they could not sellout the Orange Bowl or Joe Robbie Stadium all the time.
The 1972 Dolphins team will still toast champagne in 2020. You can bet on it.
