Long story short...say that Darnold can be a "franchise" guy. Then the Jets, if they land the 1.1 can hold an auction for whoever wants to come get Trevor Lawrence. OR...say that you fire Gase and Darnold's play rebounds...but you still want Lawrence. What would a rehabilitated Sam Darnold (young "franchisey" QB) on the trade market be worth? Would a team like the Saints or the Steelers give up a package to get their succession plan in place? I have no idea. But with Adam Gase liquefying everything he touches into diarrhea, neither do the JETS.
Final point, Becton (their prized rookie OT) was only supposed to play in an emergency. Gase sent him in over the listed back-up. Becton had to take himself out due to the pain of his injury. That is just bad coaching. Why would you risk the keystone of your OL for the next decade for one game in a season where you are not going to compete anyways?
