So that's kinda shitty for everyone involved. Now you get the short week for Week 5...

I can not believe the NFL's plan was to schedule things as if there would be no outbreaks and then to have to reschedule things that throw off teams' schedules as soon as positive tests come back.

There were going to be positive tests. With no "bubble" there were guaranteed to be positive tests results. How was this the plan?

So say the Steelers beat the Titans but lose in Week 5 because guys are beat up and less prep time...and then don't get the first round bye? Or miss the AFC North title by one game? Or slip one spot in the seeding and end up on the road in the playoffs in front of newly unleashed hostile crowds? Same for the Titans.

The NFL is just so awful at being reasonably proactive.

They should have added "bye" weeks into the schedule. Divide the season into quarters. A bye after every quarter. Reassess policies and practices. Continue the next quarter? How is this hard?

This is what happens when a league is too arrogant and they think they are invincible

Should move it out of their stadium I am not confident the Steelers won't get infected

Also a really good point. TN is putting up new cases per 100K @ over twice the rate of PA. MN is higher per 100K than PA as well.

I am not attempting to start a debate on what the impact of COVID is or is not or what states are doing this or that.

I am simply saying that if the NFL doesn't want to have positive players, you should be thinking about NOT sending them to geographic locations where there is more virus floating around than other places.

    - - - Updated - - -

Honestly, I never really stopped and thought through the NFL's policies because I didn't care. I was just happy we were getting football back.

But now that we are kinda seeing how this is being approached, there is just a whole lot of dumb here. But there were billions of dollars on the table...so I get it...

I hope it's going to be Monday night, otherwise if it would be Tuesday it would be a big disadvantage for the next game against the eagles ... Also I don't want it to be Tuesday, since I could miss this game because there's an NBA finals game on Tuesday night so let's hope it's going to be Monday night!

So does that mean this game is gonna be televised nationally?

I think if it's Monday the NFL could broker a trade and cause it to be an ESPN double header.

If I recall correctly (and I'm hitting the half-century mark, so that "if" is growing larger every day), when the Steelers and Dolphins were moved to Monday night due to the hurricane, the game still was not televised nationally. I'd think their contract with ESPN would disallow it as well.

So Sunday is dangerous enough to cancel the game, but by pushing it back an entire day everyone is super safe?

No, it's the way testing works.

If a player tests positive and is not showing symptoms: The player cannot return until 10 days have passed since the initial positive test or five days have passed since the initial positive test and the player tests negative in consecutive PCR tests separated by 24 hours. The player’s return must be approved by the team physician after consultation with the NFL’s chief medical officer.

Eight people from the organization (3 players, 5 staff) all tested positive on Tuesday. So, with the clock starting then, it ends on Sunday, one day early. If those players test negative twice, they can't play Sunday regardless, but they can play on Monday because that's the sixth day.

The postponement of Sunday’s Steelers-Titans has created a challenge for the NFL. It also will create another national TV window.
Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reports that the game between Pittsburgh and Tennessee, which originally was lumped within the 1:00 p.m. ET cluster of Sunday games, will be nationally televised in its new time slot, whenever that may be.

No but it allows an extra day of testing.

It's official: The Steelers / Titans is moved to Week 7, and Steelers / Ravens is Week 8: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-ravens-week-8

Pittsburgh gets shafted with a Week 4 bye due to Tennessee not being able to keep their players / staff in check. Wonderful.

...and there is the answer to "why dont they just isolate the positive players and get on with practice and game?".

The incubation of the virus could be a few days to a week, so those that tested positive on monday or tuesday could have infected somebody that will not test positive until approx 5 days later.

If the NFL does this they need to retroactively give Steelers a win:

Good thing there is no math on the COVID testing because most of the NFL players would not pass.

It looks like the Titans got over a hurdle of negative tests on Monday. If they get through another round with no more positives they’ll get to play in week 5.

So only the Steelers where unfairly punished for this. Which I guess is fine.

The Steelers do better the more obstacles they face.

The Titans could get a severe punishment for this according to some reports...We will see

Yeah but I don’t care at all about punishing the Titans unless it benefits the Steelers.

I don’t care about fines or taking their draft picks. I only care if they give the Steelers a W and their scheduled bye week back.
