I was wondering when this argument was going to surface...

I actually have to agree. No matter what Eli, Rivers, and Ben once were ranked when all 3 were in their primes, if Ben plays this season and a couple more at a minimum of a high end of average level; he has to take the title of "Best of the 2004 QB Class". He will have played longer than Eli. Won more than Rivers. And have the stats to equal or surpass them both.

    Here are the #'s: http://pfref.com/tiny/iAZLC

Interesting that Ben is ahead in almost every category except yards an TDs but with 10 less games than Rivers and 16 less games than Eli. Goodness, but Eli was durable.

Re: I was wondering when this argument was going to surface...

its a stupid argument plain and simple.
Ben is far and away the best of 2004.

Rivers has never sniffed a Super Bowl and he was lucky to play with LT in his prime with the Chargers and all he did was play terrible in the playoffs.
The majority of his career he played in the putrid AFC West and he usually went 8-8 at BEST and usually less and not making the playoffs.
Also easy to rack up yards getting thumped on average as well so the other team allows you to score.

Eli - aside from his 2 great playoff runs he was average to mediocre.

Which brings me to the king of the north Ben.
2 super bowl wins (yes tied with Eli) 3 appearances should have won MVP in XLIII
    3 500 yard games ( I was at the 3rd, NFL RECORD)
back to back 6TD games (I was at the 2nd of that)
only QB to have 4 perfect passer games (Peyton has 4 but one was in the playoffs so 'technically' 3)
and the proof with him coming back this year which he could've played terrible but with him on the field the team is instantly going from scrub (without him) to potential threat. Ben has been THE TEAM and will be THE TEAM even though there's I in TEAM but in this case HE makes that much of a difference.

Ben is the only sure HOF of the 3 and 'should' get in right away.
Eli will get in because of his super bowls and name
Rivers overall should never make it regardless of numbers. There's nothing that Rivers did other than have 8 kids lol sad but true.

If Eli didn't have two great Superbowls against the Pats he wouldn't even be in this conversation.

But thankfully he did (or the Pats would have 8 rings and an undefeated season to boot)! That said if you were starting a franchise, and knew what you were getting, it's a no brainer on who you would pick to start your franchise. Ben.

    1. Ben
    2. Eli
    3. Rivers (the ultimate playoff choker).

I’ve always said Eli Manning is the luckiest QB of all time.

Only Ben haters want to say an option other than Ben. Eli had too many inconsistencies. Rivers meanwhile couldn't make the Super Bowl with a stacked roster highlighted by a top 10 all time RB and top 5 all time TE. Rivers is consistently overrated

I didn't even realize there was a debate about this.

    1) Ben
    2) Either
    3) Either

I get annoyed only because the media needs to validate Rivers more than Eli because he's part of the big 3 that year.
Competition hasn't ever been all that close.

This a weird one for me.

Born in NY- Spoon fed Big Blue as a Kid

    Currently live in San Diego

    Steelers fan since ‘79

And as much as I like Ben, best of the 04 class is Eli.

He beat arguably the best team statically on the largest stage.... twice!

While Ben has suffered defeat upon defeat to that same team.

Rivers... I give two shits... but the man is ultra durable, but also suffered his worst loss against the team Eli beat twice!

    dead wrong my friend.
Eli played lights out for a total of 8 games.
Personally I love how he beat 2 of the most overrated QBs in different playoff years with Fav-re in 07 and Rodgers in 11.
And thoroughly elated he beat Brady twice!

But in and around that Eli was rather blah. Even though I personally liked Eli he was average to mediocre the majority of his career.

As for Rivers pfffftttt don't waste your time lol

I blame all the losses to the Patriots more on the "tackle the catch!" zone defensive scheme that Brady has basically made a career of shredding than I do Ben.

I also give way more credit to the Giants' defense (especially their front 4) for those two SB victories than I do Manning. They were in Brady's grill constantly, whereas our defense usually never so much as breathed hard on him.

When's the last time you saw a LeBeau/Butler defense do that to Brady consistently? Yeah, me neither.

A relentless pass rush and man coverage - whoda thunk it?

I have friends that are Chargers fans and Giants fans. They all wished they picked Roethlisberger in 2004. Case closed

Eli is better than Ben because of their win-loss records against 1/32 teams, cool logic. The Ravens had 2 postseason wins in New England when Moonball Joe was QB, I suppose he is better than Ben too

I remember back to that draft and Ben in the 'Green Room' busting Eli's balls. Ben asked Eli if his table could have Eli's candy dish since Eli wouldn't be sitting there long enough to eat any of the candy anyway. Ben kept it on Eli but Eli just would look off in a different direction and ignore Ben. Seems like I remember there were several people(other draftees) at Ben's table but Eli was sitting there by himself.

Ben looks stronger than ever!! That left elbow he had surgery on has given him the extra zip on his ball that he’s been missing...
