Read an article a bit ago (not sure where) than they were in negotiation with one more player. Not sure if its true.
Ben? Not twice in a year
Ju Ju? nah
Conner? ditto
Sutton or Hilton? maybe but doubtful
Two possibilities
Feiler - I hope.
Villanueva? I'm thinking maybe a short extension of a year or two. Yea his skills seem to have diminished but decent left tackles are hard to find. and the Stelers have held on to them past their prime in the past.
Out of the players on this list, only Watt is a guaranteed re-sign; most of the others are wait and see if we have a replacement or we can get them for the right price.
Dupree might be a target for a long-term deal, but I believe he is prohibited from signing a new deal until the off-season under the rules of the franchise tag (there is a deadline to replace the tag with a new contract, which already passed).
Hilton, unfortunately, is likely going to be too expensive to keep.
I thought we gave Villanueva a new 5-year contract a couple years ago, is it ending already?

Watt needs to eat first. He is "THE" guy that needs to be a Steeler going forward. He's one of the most complete, impact defensive players they've ever had IMO. There's nothing he can't do on a football field, and he's a tremendous worker and locker room guy. He's everything you want in a centerpiece player. A guy that leads by example.
That contract will be monstrous, but he has to be a Steeler for a long time. Players like him don't come around very often.
they could potentially get Sutton or Hilton done now assuring they do not lose em both and cheaper than waiting ...guys may do a deal now for upfront money vs waiting for the unknown and give that discount ...
so what may have been a 9 million a year deal ends up being 7 million a year but they get some now...
I think a guy like Hilton would do it since he has been getting bottom feeder coin all this time 4-5 million signing bonus landing in ones lap would look pretty damn good
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar
while true its gonna cost and cost a lot .....
that is why I do not see it happening unless Ben gets a new deal first to reduce his cap him in 2021 from the monstrous 41 million it is now ...
Watts gonna cost 20 million a year...
but Minkah is gonna be hella expensive too and how can you let him go ...
JuJu ...
among others ....
gonna have to be some really nifty math happening in Omar Khans office the next couple off seasons

Even if Watt should be the next to get resigned; there is zero chance that happens. They just don't have the cap space for what his new deal is going to look like.
According to this they have about $7 million - https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/cap/. Gotta figure that 3-4 million in season contingency fund they like to keep around is gonna get stretched this season as teams are anticipating a higher # of in season moves. So say 4.5. That means they can only add about 3 and change in new money to this year's cap sheet.
That sounds far more like an extension for AV or signing one of the CBs (Sutton or Hilton) than it does a massive deal for a pass rusher. Garrett and Bosa are the two most recently signed edge guys I could think of and they both have 2020 cap hits over $10 million and $15 million respectively.
They are not going to extend Watt this offseason. That would just be incredibly stupid. You have him on his rookie contract this season and the fifth-year option next year, then potentially the franchise tag that offseason while they try to work out a real extension.
Maybe they would try to extend him next offseason before his option year if they are feeling especially generous. But doing it this offseason would just be taking $20 million and flushing it down the toilet.
