Watch: Benny Snell Is Better Than You Think

Back at it talking to the tape to kick things off on this Monday. We’re going over Benny Snell’s rookie tape. Though the Steelers’ offense was poor across the board, run game included, Snell had a relatively productive year even in battling mid-season surgery.

In today’s breakdown, we look at his ability to be a complete back, even if he’s unlikely to ever be a top ten talent in the league. Already early in his career, Snell’s shown the ability to succeed as a runner, receiver, and pass protector. Traits on display in the video below.

Better than I think possible, anything other than 3rd string not likely IMO. Too slow, I thought short yardage would be his strength but didn’t produce in that area. I hope Im proven wrong.

He was one of the least impressive RBs I have seen in a Steelers uniform in a while. He reminded me of a bad combination of Mendenhall and Davenport. Some of those videos/breakdowns are more bad defense then Snell outshining Anyone. I hope he does well but I’m more excited to see some of the other RB talent on the roster.

He looks like he has been through the same body transformation as Bell and Conner from Year 1 to Year 2. Less weight may mean added quickness. Snell is never going to be fast but he gets a tenth of a second or a step here or a step there...he can be effective in the NFL.
