It’s hard to top “Mean” as nickname.

    Always liked "Iron Mike" (Webster).

But, as mentioned, "Mean" (Joe Greene) was the best.

I'm surprised no one has gone with Big Snack. It's one of my personal favorites. I'd put Mean Joe first and Big Snack second.

Hands down the greatest Steeler Nick name has to be mean Joe Greene, but my all time favorite football nickname is the galloping ghost.

“Big snack” no question. I met the man at a golf outing and all he did was eat.

    Two things...

    1. Everyone refers to #75 as Mean Joe.

    2. I never say Bettis. It’s always The Bus.

    Re: Greatest Nickname of all-time?

I agree with those who said Mean Joe, Steelers and Mean Joe are synonymous

also have always like Johnny ‘Blood’ McNally’s nickname, even though he played only a couple seasons with the franchise in the late 30’s and coached for a season or two after that. I think he got the name because he played an entire game with a collapsed kidney, maybe somebody can confirm

forgot about Dennis ‘Dirt’ Winston, is there a better name for a linebacker?

Not sure but wasn't Dermontti Dawson also nicknamed 'Dirt'?

Let's not forget 'The Chin'. The angrier he got the further out it stuck.

    Yes, Dermontti was also "Dirt".

Dirt Winston probably would have been a starter on alot of other teams but was behind Jack Lambert. People forget he could also play OLB.

I wonder if Frenchy and LC were the captains of the Steeler fashion shows of the 70s
