So several years back when the 3-4 was a bit more popular than it is now and when almost every "flavor" of the 3-4 involved a NT whose primary job was to anchor the middle, occupy blockers, and stuff the run - a really popular way to get pretty good NTs was to find a late career 4-3 pass rushing DT or a bigger rush DE that was kinda slowing down in their "juice" at the pass rush but still could otherwise play DL pretty well. Then you kicked them inside to 3-4 NT and called it a day. There were several 1st-3rd round guys who extended their careers that way.
Kinda sounds like someone on the current Steelers roster a little bit...
