I heard Drew Brees talked to Aaron Rodgers and Drew is now "beside himself" over this signing.
It was a problem for some when Ben had led the league in interception with 16 in 2018,but they wanted a QB who throw the most interception in a single season in the last 30 years at least with 30!
The Steelers had NO interest in Jameis Winston….
Didn't the Saints just give Taysom Hill $20 mil for 2 years? That's a hefty QB room salary when you add them all up.
That's what didn't make sense to me ... Unless Winston is playing for free, I have no idea how they can spend that much money on extra quarterbacks.

Arians at least got him to 5000+ yards passing... The INTs were excessive though.

Even if they sign Winston to a "friendly" 1yr/5mil contract... That's 40mil for the QB room. Seems like a lot.
Last year Ben was @$26 mil, Rudolph @$900,000 and 2 other guys made less than $500,000 each.
I was actually amazed to learn they are allowing that practice again.
One of the main reasons behind the rules we have now concerning signing bonuses, dead money, and accelerated cap hits for released/traded players, is because teams were abusing the ability to do the same thing as the "void year." One of the most egregious examples being when the 49ers, I believe, signed Rickey Jackson to a 10-year guaranteed contract at age 37 to cheat on the current year's cap, at which point the league said enough is enough. (Kind of like Ilya Kovalchuk's 17-year contract in the NHL, or Bobby Bonilla's 35-year contract buyout from the Mets - I guess every sports gets one of those and then has to make a rule about it).
Anyway - yeah, I guess this means they can hide some of the money as dead cap space a season or two down the road. But I never thought I would see it, since basically half the complicated cap rules were put in place to prevent exactly this.

I am surprised that it is legal and the saints have been doing this with the Brees contract since 2016 .... Maybe in the next CBA (in 2030!).The NFL will settle this!
It appears that no team wants Superman or Captain crab legs as their starter. I do think Newton can transform a team like the Colts Broncos, or Cardinals ( If he's healthy ) ...but each team has young QB's to play.
The Colts pissed away 25mil on Rivers for a year.
The jaguars are the favorite so far for Newton…

Hopefully Newton is still around come September and willing to take a deal like this. I really do not want to roll into next season with Rudolph and Duck as our backups to a QB coming off major elbow surgery. If Ben can't go then I say just tank and get into the Trevor stakes!
