Good question
Cap hit of Cook for the next 4 seasons…
$16.8m
$16.8m
$17.8m
$17.3m

Rams desperate shedding of salaries continues
It all was geared to the Rams having great seasons in 2018 and 2019 to generate excitement and sell PSLs for the new stadium that was scheduled to open this fall
Now the stadium is behind schedule and forking over big $$$ to join a big crowd to watch a potentially mediocre team is not high on very many folks to do list
They should go all in and release Goff
I was disappointed in Cooks play while here with the Patriots.
If the rams release Goff this year, the cap hit will be at.….94 Millions
And for the Rams,They traded their first round pick for an expensive player in salary way too often in the past few years....This is not the way to build a team, since your window is too small in this case .... More chance of winning a super bowl by being good for at least 10 years than by being good for only 2 years, but the rams didn't know it!
They need to paid Jalen Ramsey at least 20 millions per year too,a player they give up 2 first round pick….
Brandin Cooks Saints 1st round pick
Traded for 1st round pick to the Patriots
Traded for a first round pick to the Rams
Traded for a 2nd round pick to the Texans
With these stats why can he not stick with a team? https://www.pro-football-reference.c...C/CookBr00.htm
Good question
For the saints, they wanted to have Michael Thomas as number 1 WR and I have heard reports in the past that Cooks' attitude to the saints was not great.
The Pats wanted to have him for only one year, since they never pay WR to a long term deal at high prices.
The rams traded him because of his contract
And it's not like his teams gave Cooks for free to the other teams ... It was for a first or second round pick every time and Cooks was a non factor with the rams last year, so I think that it's another bad trade for Bill O'Brien.
Wow! They still have no 1st or 2nd round picks in 2021.
Losing Hopkins but getting Cooks and Stills could be a wash at worst.
Got better at CB(on paper)
Got better at OT
OLB could be a wash too. Clowney was good with them but couldn't stay on the field. In 6 seasons(96 reg season games) he played in 75 games. Was able to start 66. Mingo in 7 seasons(112 reg season games) played in 110 games. Jacob Martin played in 30 games in his first 2 seasons(32 reg season games). When looking at availability the Texans have guys that have been reliable.
Throw in a couple of has been RBs.(on paper)
Maybe not as bad as I originally thought.
Reportedly the Rams were phasing Cooks out of the offense and his production was poor in 2019. Trading away his contract and getting a 2nd round pick is a win. The Texans continue to lose. Also what is their cap situation looking like since Deshaun Watson is due for the standard mega contract for a QB soon?
So they basically traded Hopkins for a one trick pony receiver and a declining RB.
BOB is a clown. Use that pick on a receiver in a stacked WR draft class. I feel for Watson.
1. Graham Barton, C, Duke 2. Ricky Pearsall, WR, Florida 3. Maason Smith, DT, LSU 3. Max Melton, CB, Rutgers 4. Blake Fisher, OT, Notre Dame 6. Tommy Eichenberg, ILB, Ohio State 6. MJ Devonshire, CB, Pittsburgh
So trade for a WR with a massive contract, uneven production, and a history of concussions prior to a deep WR draft?
What a coup.
I agree with the last 4 comments...O'Brian is just stupid and don't know how to build a team
I mean, David Johnson's last good season was in 2016 and Cook is an overrated player with an awful season in 2019 and they have a big hit for the next few season...And he traded their first draft pick for the next 2 year for only a left tackle...Watson need to ask for a trade(same for Watt!!)
Cooks runs good routes and that’s about it. If he gets the separation, he can make the catch but he doesn’t catch the contested ball and is way too inconsistent to be considered worthy of a second round pick. These media outlets keep saying “he’s a 4-time 1000 years receiver”.
4/7 1000 yard seasons, at his age, in this NFLs pass happy day and age, not impressive in the least.
So basically the Texans get:
David Johnson, Brandon Cooks, 2nd Round Pick and 2 future 4th Round Picks.
They give up:
DeAndre Hopkins, 2nd Round Pick and a 4th Round Pick.
Would’ve been a great trade 3 years ago...
Johnson(only one great season and it was in 2016) and their fourth round draft pick in 2022 are going to need to be great to justify this trade!
Unlikely…..but O'Brien took a lot of cap space to have his players ...Tunsil will want 20 millions per year and Watson, maybe 40....
Brandin Cooks trade grades: Another disaster for the Texans, and an admission of failure for the Rams
In the latest battle of Bill O'Brien versus any conceivable or feasible notion of draft pick value, the Houston Texans fired off one of their last remaining selections to not solve their self-created problem, trading for wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Even if Cooks returns to his prior form, the Texans seem to operate in a vacuum in which there is no concept of what the other 31 teams are doing or thinking. This trade is an admission of failure from the Los Angeles Rams. It's a flailing response to failure for the Texans.
It's easy to understand why the Rams made this move, although it's the end to yet another disastrous contract extension for general manager Les Snead. In the summer of 2018, I cautioned that the contract extensions handed to Cooks and Todd Gurley were poorly structured. Less than two years later, neither player is on the Rams' roster.
Los Angeles Rams get: 2020 second-round pick (No. 57)
Houston Texans get: WR Brandin Cooks, 2022 fourth-round pick
Rams grade: B
Texans grade: D+

If you want to see a team that does not know how to manage a salary cap, just look at the rams ... It is pathetic how often they got into a hell cap and traded so many time their first round pick
Billionaire money aside, personnel-wise are these trades really that disastrous? VS unknowns in the draft which can still happen? Money-wise these trades ARE dumb.
It's just not the way to build a team since the window to be a contender is much smaller if a team trades their first round pick every year for a player who is going to have a big contract ... Of course being very good in the draft is also very important in this league.
I don't mind Wentz, but I don't think hes as good as people have made him out to be...at least not yet. Watching him, he's made some McNabb-esque throws in big moments and he's health is always a question. He's not Goff terrible, but he's not upper echelon...yet. Goff isn't starting NFL QB material IMO.
