Ah, that's the whole thing though. The quarantine was never meant to prevent you from ever getting sick. It was so there was a hospital bed for you if you needed it. That's it.
You know that flatten-the-curve chart that everyone posts over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, until the point where if someone came up and planted a pickaxe in the back of their head, you'd applaud them? You know the one:
There aren't any fewer people infected in one than the other, they're just more spread out. That was stressed over and over again by The Experts themselves. It's going to do what it's going to do, and you're either going to get it or you're not. I guess if you can isolate yourself indefinitely, you can lower your own risk dramatically, but frankly, at this point it is not my job to protect anyone else; we are long past the point where we've done enough to protect others. Everyone basically gets how it works by now, so it is up to you.
If I was going to go to McDonald's, and then I was told avoiding it makes the difference between a 1-in-100,000 risk of you dying or zero risk, then guess what, you're going to find me digging into a cheeseburger. Just kidding, I wouldn't go there, I'd at least go to Jack in the Box.
I read that the average age of death from this in the U.S. is 81, and the average life expectancy is 78. Of course, it was just some asshole on Twitter quoting some asshole political site, but I wouldn't be surprised.
See you Space Cowboy ...

You’re not wrong and I think I broadly agree with you. But I’m not capable right now of expressing where I do differ in degrees from what your saying. I’ll try another time.

New "Stand Your Ground" law?
If someone gets too close to you coughing and sneezing should you be able to use deadly force to keep them at bay?

Seriously do you blame him? Have you seen the crap they're asking him? A few weeks ago some reporter asked him about the number of deaths in Vietnam getting past. There's huge difference dying in a war at age 20 versus dying at age 78 from a virus.

Go to the CDC's website directly. In the beginning I was using John Hopkins and Worldmeter websites but they are just tracking deaths for shock and awe. The CDC is actually tracking the more finite numbers like age and other issues they patient had (i.e. pneumonia, the flu, heart disease, etc ...).

Seriously, are you guys arguing about Trump. Cant anybody be honest with themselves and admitt that he is the worst Republican President in the history of the USA? In my lifetime Ronald Reagan, George Bush, GW Bush, Gerry Ford and the impeached Richard Nixon were all better leaders, human beings and nowhere near of an embarrassment to the party, the country that Donald and his band of bumbling offspring are.
I consider myself a fiscal conservative and am for private enterprise, lower corporate taxes to promote the economy rather than tax and spend on government job creation. But I honestly think the Republican party deserves better than Trump. America deserves better than him.
Funny thing is that the large portion of his base are not people that he would ever want in his golf resorts, in his hotels, in his social circles. He's been a con man most of his business life and he has conned a large base into thinking he likes them.
As for the COVID situation. Sure its been mis handled. Sure it looks like the government that was elected to protect the people has refused to take leadership and not let the CDC provide detailed scientific and medical advice to the public. But stuff is opening up and if people can respect actions that will not result in further uncontrollable outbreaks, then all will remain open. If infection rates and death toll rises, there will be governors ordering things back to the way they were 4 weeks ago.
Yeah, this is another part I cant get. People that bitch about somebody kneeling during the national anthem and profess to have such pride and respect for the military and those who serve.....yet they embrace a guy that had his millionaire daddy get him a doctors note from a tenant, so he could get out of his military service duty.
Criticizing a military veteran for having his plane shot down in a war that you dodged your military duty as an American is pretty low. Like I said, the republican party and republican voters deserve better.

Yawn. Now do that for Clinton and Biden. Neither one of them served as well.
Yes America deserves better than him and yes he's a ego maniac but just like Churchill and Patton he is the exact type of President we needed right now to deal with the clearly lopsided DNC loving Press. Could you imagine Hillary as President? As brash as Trump is, the Clinton's are corrupt scumbags through and through. The Press gave Obama a free pass and never asked him a tough question. Perfect example, yesterday Eric Holder was on MSNBC and all they did was ask him about the DOJ pardoning Flynn. A good reporter would have brought up the Fast and the Furious or talked about how Obama's administration was illegally spying on the Trump campaign, but of course they didn't. These "news" channels script their interviews and it's disgusting and a malfeasance of journalism. And BOTH sides do it. They clearly all have an agenda ... to make money not report facts.
Unfortunately both parties are the same thing now. There hasn't been a true Conservative President since probably Eisenhower. Eisenhower even warned in his departing speech to be leery of the Military Industrial Complex and he was 100% correct.
Unfortunately our system is really set up as an Oligarchy, not a Democracy. It's been that way since 1790 when the Constitution was ratified. The people with money win the seats. Sure a few outsiders get in, but they are quickly shown the "way" and fall right into the game or they do not last. I know it's a comedy but watch Eddie Murphy's movie the Distinguished Gentlemen. It pretty much sums up how our Government works.
As far as the COVID situation NO one in the world was ready for it, and outside of Trump grandstanding in press conferences I think he's done a great job of letting the two CDC doctors (Fauci and Birx) take the lead. There are tons of people calling for them to be fired and he's stayed the course.

Sorry, the guy is an effin embarrassment. He has made America the laughingstock of the world.
The "great job of letting Fauci and Birx take the lead" is another global embarrassment. Injecting disinfectant and light sources into the human body?? Still touting Hydroxycholoquine as a game changer, when the FDA has issued an express warning on its use??? Basically he is promoting off label use of a drug and medical malpractice.
There are people in political office and the general public in their living rooms around the world that tune into the TV, so they can get a laugh at the next idiotic thing that Trump says. They chuckle at how America voted in such a delusional idiot that is letting thousands of people in his country die, because he is busy tweeting at late night comedians.

As this thread ceased being about the NFL a while back, I think it would be a more appropriate thread for the Soapbox at this point.

If we're arguing about Trump now - it is funny to me that nearly all the arguments against him are emotional appeals. "But he's so stupid!" "But he's a narcissist!" "He's embarrassing, Europeans are laughing at us!" "He's a bully!" "He's a con man!" "He's incompetent!" Rarely anything substantially about policy or results, just complaining about the manner in which he arrives at them. And a lot of "I don't like the guy personally; therefore whatever he wants must be horrible."
Meanwhile, you know who got Trump elected? Liberal Democrats. For about a decade now, they have been running on a platform of "Fuck you. You're terrible, the state of things is awful and miserable and it's all your fault, you should be ashamed of yourself. You are greedy, you're lazy and stupid and fat - well actually, it's ok to be lazy and stupid and fat, just not for YOU to be, it's disgusting. Capitalism sucks, America sucks, we owe an apology to the whole world, everything's going to hell and your entire way of life needs to be uprooted; vote for us and we'll all be miserable together. What, you don't want to be miserable? Selfish bastard, you're worse than cancer, we will track you down on the internet and get you fired from your job."
Well, no wonder that when people hear the message "Guess what, it's not your fault, and things aren't even terrible, what are these clowns talking about?" they respond with "Hmm, I guess I don't enjoy being treated like shit. This is a promising change of pace, tell me more."
So that's why Trump is in charge. I am not a member of either major political party, and generally am disgusted with them both, but it is plain as day to see how that happened.

Sorry if we've already been over this, but - wasn't the Democrats' position that America was already the laughingstock of the world, just that while Obama was president we were sorry for it?
See you Space Cowboy ...

And now we are all the way down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass.
Let the CDC lead...that is hilarious. The CDC put together detailed guidelines for reopening that the administration said "will never see the light of day" because it recommended churches seriously social distance and the administration doesn't want to piss off the Christian Right ahead of a contested election. They squashed the original pandemic response suggestions as well because of the "economy". Instead of letting the CDC and other similar government agencies take the lead on sourcing PPEs and testing reagents; the administration turned to Kushner and his "business bros" and the US lost out on millions of masks and such due to their incompetence and inexperience.
We could post detailed case-studies from other democratic countries that have close to zero new cases of the virus, are almost fully opening their economies, had far less intense outbreaks, and somewhat less intense economic freak outs (mostly because government aid actually went to individual workers NOT corporations) to demonstrate that it was possible to do this far better than our own leadership managed to do.
I can get links to the facts that document all this. I have resisted spamming this thread with a daily drumbeat of the Trump administration stepping on it's own dick during this crisis because I figured that would just turn this into something straight out of a MAGA fever dream in response. Clinton killed 97 people and works to advance the crypto-lizard cause and Obama is Muslim Illuminati over-lord.
But here we are anyways. Any semblance of logic, debate, and discussion over an important issue is now going to go straight out the window because this thread said "Trump, Clinton, Obama" . It is like chanting "Candyman" three times. Only instead of a horror appearing; you just get staggeringly stupid.

So I have a bit more of my brain up and running today. Thought I would offer an actual response to your posting. I agree with all of what you are saying. But what frustrates me, and this is solely my localized anecdotal experience so it may not be an accurate picture of the entire country, is that people have just given up thinking that any of this applies to them. No masks. No social distancing. No avoiding public gatherings. No following the modified operating procedures posted at retail and food service businesses.
That is what pisses me off. We got put into full bore lockdowns partly because people wouldn't adhere to the softer measures that were first implemented. Now people are screaming to be let out of lockdowns. States are doing it; and people are right back to ignoring almost every suggested/posted behavior.
To me, that says we are just going to reverse the curve or some sort of clever snarky statement here. Like in 4 weeks we are just going to be back to where we were in early March. If it was scary enough then that people voluntarily withdrew from the marketplace and the workplace (and again that did happen) why are they going to stay out and about in July when this thing spikes up again?
I am fully supportive of opening everything that can be opened. I think that sensible precautions also need to be enforced. Unfortunately, it is a lowest common denominator thing. All it takes is a few people NOT doing reasonable things; and any progress made on this over the past 2-3 months goes away.
Its pretty apparent how Trump got voted in. He had the support of his base and the support of Republicans that stated "I'm not voting for him, I'm voting against Hillary". Hillary couldn't even garner the majority of the vote of women because female voters didn't trust her.
We can talk policies, leadership, the relations between States and Federal Government, International Relations, International policies, the level of involvement in Military operations, taking advice of US Military leaders, US leaders in Health and Immunology....but people in his voting base don't want to, people that are on the far left want to and the conservatives that didn't support him, but rather opposed Clinton don't want to admit anything to do with either.
The COVID19 situation was mishandled tremendously by the Feds. Avoidance is not a strategy. Some states have good enough leadership to get what was needed and were smart enough to seek information from people that know more than they do. Those are the states that likely have lower death tolls and are further along the road to recovery and have the best chances of not relapsing into positions of outbreaks.

And how do you know this? I've lived and worked in Sweden and still have lots of European friends. Just like this country their press rips him but most of the people I stay in contact with in Sweden, Germany, Estonia, the Netherlands all love him. I also game with a lot of older guys in a clan that is based in the Netherlands, these are people in their 30s, 40s and 50s that all like him.
As Steelreserve said all the people that hate Trump hate him for emotional reasons. Before this hit our country was heading in a great direction. Trump of course got no credit from our press for this. Europe was paying for NATO (hadn't in years) our stock markets were roaring, the trade deficit with China was being dealt with, school shootings way way down, when's the last time you heard about a suicide bomber?
Again, yes he has his warts but the Democratic party is NOT the party that your blue collar father supported. They are more interested in their 200+ genders, and other nonsense not the typical American worker.
Sorry, I'll take Trump's America over that any day. BTW, I've never been registered to either party and have voted for both sides since I started voting in 1986. Like I said they are both corrupt.
How about you guys just stay sheltered in place and let the rest us get back with our lives?

Must resist urge to make white power jokes...lure is so strong...not fair...innocent bystanders will be hurt...totally unreasonable escalation on my part...SOOOOOO difficult.......all places mentioned are hotbeds of right wing lunacy...not fair to make it this easy...must stay strong...not okay to call someone a hatemonger for no reason....but it could be funny....

Maybe, you can talk about the 200 genders of the world instead?

Sure. What would you like to know? Would you like to know more about how biological sex and gender are totally different things? Would you like to know more about how traditional American culture is one of the few cultures in the contemporary and historical world that only recognizes two genders? Would you like to know more about how gender roles and expectations are completely made up by each culture and have no basis in biology or history? Would you like to know about the differences between the biology of sex and the cultural construction of gender?
Actually, I have been functioning in society the entire time, getting my groceries, getting in the occasional walk, bike ride...all while respecting the principals of social distancing and not spreading aerosolized saliva droplets. I haven't been living in a bubble.
The need to goto Buffalo Wild Wings or the gym, McDonalds or Starbucks hasn't been an overwhelming inconvenience. I hope you and others can get back to work soon if you currently are not.

This attempt to equate following rules that are good for society at large to being a hermit belongs on the funny pages.

There are impressions, emotional reactions, and facts. This administration has largely held the ground and trends started by the Bush and Obama administrations when it comes to economics. Very little to expand or grow things, unless you are at the tippy top.

In fact, economic growth under Trump is the same or worse than every President since Carter (excepting the Great Recession Years of Bush and Obama): https://www.washingtonpost.com/busin...is-more-mixed/
Trump's economy lags that of even Carter! Let alone falling well short of the Reagan and Clinton economies.

Agreed on this, trying to get back to the game....it should not be different, cause you can’t play the game with masks, social distancing doesn’t work for attendance, sidelines, nothing. It’s just not going to work unless you lift restrictions. Players can’t play without a crowd either, these guys feed off the crowd, the game would turn into a watered down parody of its former self. I’m hopeful that the power and popularity of the NFL will win out- but given this current climate - not so sure, we may indeed see a watered down version that will effect the quality of the game - which will ultimately fail to bring in the revenue hoped for
