How long does this league last?

Really thought they had something with the AAF until....they folded.

I thought Matthew Thomas was a HOF'er??? Well, at least he gets a shot in the XFL.

Not sure how long the league will last. It will probably have decent ratings in the beginning and then fade off.
I don't know Vince's financial strength right now but his WWE product sucks right now and has competition now (AEW).

Yeah, remember when everybody was complaining and anguishing as to why the Steelers didn't keep him on the 53? He showed closing speed on almost tackling a runner for TD in the preseason and some were making Shazier comparisons. He was the biggest training camp hero since Kevin Fogg, but not the likes of Olaqwerty Adeni in 2018.

I'll give it about 4 weeks. How many times will they try to start up another football league before they realize it's never going to work?
Living here in the St Louis area I can tell you there's not much interest in the BattleHawks. Hell most people don't even realize there's another football team here. Maybe because everyone is still so jaded from the Rams leaving?? I've only lived here for 2 years now but it's clear that this is a baseball-first town and nobody really cares much about football. There's not even a whole lot of excitement for the Chiefs being in the super bowl, even though they're just 4 hours away on the other side of the state.

I predicted and think what killed that league was hardly any games on regular TV and most on the NFL channel. As for the new XFL I don't think it last either. Need to be able to get big name players like the USFL did and if you can't then you can't compete with the NFL.

Glad to see some of the guys are getting a 2nd chance at the NFL. The biggest unknown was rookie free agent Trey Johnson. He had 4.3 speed and made plenty of plays on the ball as a corner in college. The rookie got hurt early and then was cut.

With an average salary of $55,000, the XFL should be able to make a profit. An NFL practice squad player makes more money than this by a good margin, so the XFL will be made up of guys who can't make the practice squad, or players that are no longer eligible for the NFL practice squad and were cut.

Plus the players can sell used cars and real estate in the offseason like they used to in the NFL when Larry Csonka made $50k in 1973.

That list is a great reminder of why NFL-alternative leagues fail so often. It is not a lot of fun to watch that caliber of players compete professionally, unless you are just REALLY into football for football's sake. Too many people will be left thinking, "Professional is supposed to be the highest level of competition and this isn't."

Except for this guy. If football doesn't work out, I have a feeling he's got a bright future as a commander in the Orcish Army.

AB is going to come in and save this league, with his name being "He Hate Me II"!

I'm not even gonna lie, with how the XFL interviews the players in-game I'd freakin tune in to watch that if AB is there.

Re: Former Steelers Making Debut In XFL

Doesn't appear Landry Jones has given much thought to that planning for his life's work after football thing

Landry Jones is the face of the XFL. But does he want to be?

It was February 2019, six months after his unexpected release from the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had worked out for roughly 20 NFL teams, and nobody wanted to sign the veteran backup quarterback. So he reached out to John Huffman, the owner of Black Door Renovation, who'd recently drawn up plans to remodel Jones' Fort Worth-area home. "I want to learn more about construction," Jones said. "Are you guys hiring?"

Not exactly, Huffman explained. There weren't any management positions available, but there was one job: The guy who drove the dump truck had recently quit. It was by far the lowest position at Black Door Renovation, a messy, hard-labor gig. Whoever drove the truck had to fill the dump trailer with demolition debris, then haul it to the landfill for minimum wage.

"Heck yes," Jones said. "I'll do it."

Watching now and not to bad, pretty cool Jim Zorn is the coach of Seattle since he played for them in the NFL.

Looks like the same problem the AAF had with bad QB play. Kinda hard to watch IMO.

Only seen a few series. The QB play is certainly nothing to write home about. BUT the offensive line play is awful. There's at least one free pass rusher every play.

    And Sammi Coates dropped one.

if the product can be as entertaining as yesterdays games the XFL can maybe stick, The AAF had some moments but nothing close to what the two games I watched yesterday.

Two games today, game one starting at 2pm est on FOX with the Vipers vs Guardians, and our old friend Landry Jones for the Dallas Renegades vs the Battlehawks at 5pm on ESPN.
