For those of you who do not know who he was you missed something special. He was the DC of the original Steel curtain Defense and the assistant Head Coach. He also designed the Stunt 4-3 defense that helped Joe Greene and the Steel Curtain dominate in the 70's.
He was 85 years old. RIP George and thank you for all you did in your time as a Steeler.

Hired by Coach Noll as the DL coach in 1972 when the dynasty took flight to coach up the great line of Mean Joe, LC, Fats Holmes and Mad Dog, promoted to DC for the later Super Bowl years until leaving in 1982, then had a great second act as Michigan State HC where he hired some guy named Saban to be his DC.
His coaching temperament was a good match for Joe, Fats, and Mad Dog.

As the DL coach his backups were able to step in and keep the Steel Curtain going strong behind the iconic starters.
