Mason Rudolph's season-ending injury was more severe than it appeared

It has been a tough season for Mason Rudolph, and it had little to do with his performance as a second-year quarterback.
He was knocked unconscious in the first game against the Baltimore Ravens, hit on the head with his own helmet in the much-publicized incident with Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, and now, the latest — suffering a rare and potentially dangerous injury in his final appearance against the New York Jets on Dec. 22.

After sustaining what he thought was merely a dislocated left shoulder after being tackled in the third quarter, Rudolph discovered he had something much more serious — posterior sternoclavicular dislocation, an injury that can threaten several vital structures near the medial clavicle, including the trachea and aorta.

It is the type of injury usually associated with motor vehicle accidents and falls and is considered an emergency...........

That's really serious stuff. Thankfully, he avoided any life-threatening damage with the dislocation.

He'll be back and ready to go next season.

I still think he will make strides and continue to get better.

Yup, if he perforated the Aorta he would have likely bled internally and died in minutes. Crazy stuff.

Wow. Thankfully it wasn’t that serious (as it could have been).

He might be fragile, difficult to say. But if he is injury prone, along with the immaturity of the Brown's game, I say move on. When Ben retires, the Steelers will enter the dark ages and basically waste this defense. Then when the offense is finally back on track, the defense will have been shredded.

Might as well stop being a fan of the Steelers right?

Makes sense. This kinda makes the point, and I agree with it, that the Steelers are probably not gonna be good for the next several decades. Might be time to hop on the bandwagon of some other successful team.

Do you have any conceivable reason for getting up in the morning?

No kidding. The kid could have died on the field with a dissected aorta, but the first comments are that he may be fragile or injury prone. SMH

It's hard for me to wrap my head around stuff like that. It's hard to believe that any of these people have ever been in a locker room. The complete disregard and lack of empathy for an injured player is staggering to me.

What I always find amazing is that when I listen to fans that are always ready to blow the whole thing up, or the ones that determine a player is worthless 5 snaps into his career, or can't even admit when a coach they despise does a terrific job over a period of time.....they can't see that they are acting like spoiled children.

They have no loyalty to anybody.

All that negative attitude, yet they expect players to run through walls, to give everything they have at all times, to play for less money than they deserve.....and of course....never get hurt.

Their behavior is exactly what they say they despise in coaches and players.

Man this kid has dodged a couple bullets, first the helmet attack and now this.

In any case I think he'll be back and better than ever. He really impressed me with some throws he made against the Jets. For the first time this season he was consistently stepping into his passes and they had some heat behind them. Perhaps the benching gave him the opportunity to work on mechanics more, whatever happened, I hope he keeps that up.
