Rams and the danger of paying too much

We weren't that bad off during the good years 04-10 . Damn they over spent and got worse

"That’s two players, in Goff and Gurley, who will account for $53.2 million of the roughly $200 million 2020 salary cap. Oh, but the fun doesn’t end there. Donald’s taking a $25 million chunk out of the cap in 2020, while cornerback Jalen Ramsey’s salary is set to balloon to $13.7 million next year.*Throw in Brandin Cooks’ $16.8 million, and you’ve got half the Rams’ 2020 salary cap tied up in five players.*Five."

And they do not even have Ramsey signed after next year after trading a first round pick for him - zero leverage in any negotiations with him

IMO the strategy was to win now to sell seat licenses for the stadium that opens next year as much as just wanting to win a Lombardi

Link below to long article on the screwed up Rams-Chargers new stadium situation

    What a cluster

Gurley really started to eat towards the end of the season. I’m wondering if McVay just mismanaged the use of Gurley. As for Goff, he’s terrible at reading defenses and now that teams have figured that out and now know they have to fool McVay so he can’t relay the calls to Goff, you’re starting to see the real Goff...a little closer to the Jeff Fisher Goff than Goff of 2018.

McVay is supposed to be a genius, but like Sean Payton, he hurts his team by over thinking it and out coaching themselves.

They have a Detroit Lions situation where Stafford, Suh, and Johnson were taking up like half their cap. There is nothing you can do to get out from under it until one or two of those players are gone.

The Rams "reset the market" on two positions at once, knowing they were also about to have to eat a starting QB salary. Not smart. Then the market-resetting running back turned out to have a chronic injury before even playing a down on his new contract. Sucks to be them!

Only the draft can save them. They need to hit it big in the draft in the next couple years, or they will become a real shit show.

That's exactly why the Steelers were smart not to pay Bell, especially since the dude had a history of injuries and suspensions. I get how some fans want to see some dude make his money and that's all good, but there's a thing called the salary cap. The rest of the team suffers when a player gets paid and doesn't produce at that level.

Difference between the Rams and the steelers from 2004 to 2010 is that the steelers had more that 2 good season and they never traded a first round pick for an established player ... The rams did that too many time.
