For Whom to Root (Week 16)

The Bills loss hurt. The Steelers still control their destiny, but another loss would make getting the #6 seed difficult... and creating the need for us to root for certain outcomes in other games (hence, this thread).

Let’s start with the obvious ones:

Saints @ Titans A loss by the Titans keeps us from “having” to end up 10-6. Go Saints!!!

Bills @ Taperiots Besides wanting the Taperiots to drop in the seeding, a loss by the Taperiors keeps the Texans’ hopes for the #3 seed alive... which means that the Texans would play their starters in Week 17. Conversely, a Taperiots loss coupled with a Ravens win means that the Ravens would rest their starters in Week 17. Go Bills!!!

Ravens @ Browns A win by the Ravens does two things. 1. As stated above, a win coupled with a Taperiots loss assures the Ravens of the #1 seed (and then, the Ravens would rest their starters in Week 17). 2. Plus, it eliminates the Browns. Go Ravens!!!

Raiders @ Chargers Meh, it matters very little. Go Chargers.

Now for the game that has me miffed.

Texans @ Buccaneers A Texans win and a Taperiots loss keeps the Texans’ hopes of getting a higher seed alive... which means that the Texans would play their starters in Week 17. Then again, a Texans win gives them the AFC South... and if the Texans’ seeding is “locked in”, the Texans might rest their starters in Week 17. HELP!!! For whom should we be rooting??? Really. I’m not certain.

    Here. We. Go!!!

I am going to assume that the more losses by the Texans and the Titans, the better the situation for the Steelers.

I think we need to root for the Bucs.

    "Hooyinz shoodbee roo'infer".
I'm sticking with this little crusade of mine.

Yinz shoodbee roo'infer da Saints, Billz, an Ravenz. Yinz shoodprolly be roo'infer da Chargerz juss cuz da Raiderzerr abuncha jagoffs. I dunno if yinz shoodbee roo'infer da Texanz erda Bucs.

    [/yinzerspeak]

On Texans vs. Bucs, I'm gonna go with the Bucs. A Texans win may or may not help us get in and may or may not help us with seeding. A Bucs win definitely helps us get in, but definitely does not help us with seeding.
I'm not greedy, so I'd prefer to maximize our chances to get in.

TB and HOU are tied at 17 at the half. HOU gets the ball to start the 2nd.

Almost but not quite. Final score HOU 23 TB 20.
So now we have to hope that HOU doesn't rest against TEN.

Winston BLOWS. We needed Tampa to win this to force the Texans to have something to play for. He just threw and INT to basically seal it for Houston who will now rest everyone next week. So basically we need to win our last two games or hope the Titans lose both.

Oh well it was a good year considering the garbage hand we were dealt.

LOL and Tampa fair catches it at their own 3 yard line.

That’s the thing... if the Bills win, the Texans will play their starters next week, because the Texans could possibly surpass the Taperiots in the seeding. So...

    Go Bills!!!

If the Steelers won both games, they are 100% the #6 seed (regardless of what the Titans do).

So... Tied at the half 10 all. Bills get the ball to start the 2nd half.

Damn Bills couldn't hang on. Pats clinch AFC East for 11th straight season.

Patriots most likely be in SB

To win with 17 points on the road usually requires a really crap offense for the opponent

Re: For Whom to Root (Week 16)

Pats are locking up 2nd seed next week.

If we make it , we only have the 6th available. So our road is looking like it goes thru Baltimore.

It's been an exciting ride. Proud of this team. Let's get in the dance and take it one game at a time.

Re: For Whom to Root (Week 16)

So with Houston winning their division today, they probably rest their starters next week, leading to a Titans win. We now have to win out to make the playoffs correct (assuming the Titans win next week and lose this week)?

So IF the Steelers get in, they have to beat KC and then Baltimore, then travel to NE and hand the Patriots another Super Bowl birth...lol...great.

Yes, even if the Titans lose to the Saints tomorrow we have to win out because they hold the 9-7 tie breaker, assuming Houston rests their starters and give the Titans a gift the final week. Of course we can hope the Ravens clinch the #1 spot tomorrow and rest their starters the final week as well.

Okay so both the Ravens & Texans will rest their starters final game. Just got to get a win this week. We do that I think we are in good shape to make it still. Of course that is if the Ravens don't lose to the Browns again. I don't see that happening!

I am not sure we can beat the Ravens #2s but either way, it was a much better season that it should have been considering all that has happened, so I will just enjoy the rest of the games and watching this defense play.

We should have beaten them in OT if not for the fumble! I'm pretty sure we can beat a Raven team with RG at QB. If they win this week and rest LJ for a half of course.

Titans not playing Derrick Henry today. Giving Henry a chance to rest his sore hamstring today reflects Titans knowledge that win or loss against Saints has zero impact on their playoff chances

Re: For Whom to Root (Week 16)

Here’s the simplest version of Steelers & Titans:

    Steelers win 2...

Steelers win only 1 game AND Titans lose to Texans...

Steelers win only 1 game AND Titans beat Texans...

    Steelers lose 2...

    SUMMATION:
The Titans can lose to the Saints; it’s truly irrelevant. Strange.
