This is Why Newspapers are Dying Part One Million

    https://www.pennlive.com/sports/2019...tting-old.html

I know I am going to get flamed for this, but this type of crap is why no one under the age of "old" reads newspapers or their zombie online sites anymore.

"Meanwhile, an oblivious JuJu just can’t seem to grasp that all his stardom starts with his clutch catches for the Steelers. Strip that away, as this season has, and much of his social media admiration evaporates with his ever-plunging 2019 stats.

Simply put, more and more Steelers fans finally seem to be tiring of JuJu’s act. And that, my friends, is a problem -- one final plot twist in an already rollercoaster ride of a Steelers’ season that ain’t over yet.

I have all the off-field hits on JuJu in my latest Steelers Update podcast, along with plenty of fallout from the Steelers’ swoon against the Bills and the forecast for the big reunion with Le’Veon Bell and the Jets this Sunday in the Meadowlands, where a loss would surely leave the season somewhere in the swamps of Jersey."

    So let's break this down:

    1. nonsense article with no actual content. Cool. Cool. Gotta get those clicks.
    2. Claim that many fans are tiring of Juju. Got anything to back that up with? Or just figure that it sounds true, so lets just roll it out there.
    3. Oh. Did I fail to mention this anti-social media rant is all just a long advertisement for my podcast?

Juju is 21 or whatever. This is how everyone his generation rolls. Famous or not. Rich or poor. They document and post everything they do from the time they wake up to the time they go to bed. But lets just crank out cranky "stick to football" and "rub some dirt on it" screeds.

For crying out loud, grab some game tape and look into why Juju isn't putting up stats. I would certainly be interested to know if he was being doubled or just couldn't beat single coverage. Is he running different routes than in the past? Did the QB just miss an open Juju? Why are Washington and DJ open and getting catches but Juju wasn't?

I know this gets old from me and many don't care -- but this is why most of us are stupid about everything. This is what qualifies as information now a days. Some moron's easy lazy opinion. Meanwhile, if you actually want to know about something -- where do you turn?

God. I sound old, out of touch, and angry. Guess I know what my new year's resolutions are -- isolated cabin in the woods!

Juju is a good kid, yeah he made a stupid decision to film himself going over 100mph, but seriously who hasn't done that? Minus the filming / social media part lol.

The guy volunteers a lot of time at the children's hospitals and is active in community service, why doesn't anybody mention that? I have no problem with him wanting to play video games and party. Hell that's what I was doing at 22 lol.

Any fool with a computer can write nonsense and try to convince as many people as possible to follow them.

The more concerning thing to me is how many people believe what clueless people think or write. Somebody writes something that is baseless in fact. It is nothing more than the random opinion of someone's personal vendetta against the cause of his pain, and the weak-minded are won over by some words that undo the actions of what a player has done over the course of a couple years?

    It's nonsense.

Some people are that short-sided. We read the magical thoughts of some people just like that right here sometimes.

I don't know what to do about it, but this is just how things are anymore.....and it sucks.

Maybe the saddest thing of all is having to listen to some of these people bitch about a player until that player is gone.....and then cry about why the team isn't good enough the following year.....and they still can't connect the dots that the player they have been railing against not being with the team anymore is the problem that is hurting the team.

The same thing is happening right now with Big Ben not being on the field. Some people bitched for years that he is overrated and is nowhere near the player some make him out to be. We are getting a glimpse of exactly what many here have been praying to see happen for years.....life without Ben. Well....Congratulations! This is what you get.

I just wish that people in general can learn to appreciate things more, and identify real quality when they are looking at it instead of longing for something else. Maybe be a little less petty in the things that make them turn on people to their own detriment.

Anyway....I hear you man. I really do.

There are numerous data driven sites that provide good info such as PFF and Football Outsiders. Even the NFL.com site has stepped up its game with NextGen Stats. And I am very pleased with The Athletic, which harbors a lot of refugees from SI, ESPN and local newspapers, that provides more traditional sportswriting. I pay what I regard as a reasonable subscription fee for that, which is where most media worth someone’s time is heading other than loss leader online sites like ESPN.com, which also has walled off significant content for a subscription, and NFL.com

Local newspapers problems are that constantly declining revenue and circulation makes it even harder to fund good reporting. As the product deteriorated that leads to further declines in revenue and circulation. When readers got in the habit of expecting content to be free, one of the fatal mistakes newspapers made when they initially went online, the product you ended up with is dreck like the column to which you link.

Back in the day reporters at least had access to the players outside game time - once most teams gave that up (a book like Roy Blount’s classic Three Bricks Shy Of A Load where he was with the 1973 Steelers on and off the field could never be written today) hard to see what value most local reporting delivers.

Agree that he is a good kid.

But, I’ve never driven 100 mph. That’s a bit too fast.

Before the internet there were these people called EDITORS. They knew what they printed actually had to be factual. Today "editors" only care about getting a story out there for "clicks" and could care less about what the actual content is. If they get it wrong they print a "retraction" and it usually doesn't matter because the attention span of the public is now 15 minutes.

It depends when and where you do it. I went about 120+MPH. I did it at about 1AM on an empty freeway(91) fast track

Are we sure he wasn't just trolling? The dashboard said 104 but it didn't say MPH anywhere. And based on the speed of the car he passed, and the objects outside the car, it looks more like he changed the settings to kph.

I thought that too and it’s not out of any question that he would troll everyone like that...lol

But John Luciew is an award-winning reporter for PennLive and a 25-year Steelers season ticket-holder. Isn't that enough??????
