We also haven’t been passing to the TE nearly as much as I would have expected so what do I know?
Yea man and screen passes should be in your arsenal of plays and specially when you go up against good pass rush defenses. I agree about the TE too and he is a rookie QB's best friend but neither are involved in this offense. I guess we don't need them since we have the WC!

We have some of the best pass catching RBs out of the backfield, no need for a bubble screen, just a regular screen pass to JaySam would have done wonders against the Bills defense, I believe I mentioned it in the game thread also.

Yep and I vote to impeach Fichtner!

I was never a fan of Wildcat either. I agree this offense is horrible.

True, Miami rolled it out as a gadget when they had no real QB's and the fad was quickly easy to stop within a few months. Terrible scheme IMO.

I agree, a good RB or TE screen to slow down a pass rush can be a play that gets some good chunks of yardage against teams that overpusue.

They called a couple screens and it was a disaster...I think one was on 2nd and 12 for a loss? That did zero to slow the pass rush. That rush was getting in of 5,6,7,8 in pass protection and some of the players were getting in easily and untouched.

    Pretty cool calculator:
    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...yj-pit-16=loss

Steelers' current chance to make playoffs 50% (down from 68% before Bills loss). If Steelers beat Jets it goes up to 66% but if they lose it goes down to 23%. Seems about right.

PFT says if Texans beat Bucs they clinch AFC South. If Pats also beat Bills that locks Texans into no shot at first round bye.

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...rs-in-week-17/

Looking like Steelers will need to finish 10-6 to get wildcard - that Bills loss was a killer

    Go Jameis and Arians!

It all depends on what the Titans do. I'm not ready to concede that the Titans can do what's necessary to force the Steelers to win out.

The loss to the Bills really hurt. Of that there is no doubt.

Here's hoping the Steelers get it done this Sunday, and the Titans fall on their faces.

Well this week's game didn't start out well for us. We really needed Tampa to win, now the Texans have nothing to play for next week.

Unless Buffalo beats NE. Then they have a shot at the 3 seed.
    Buffalo's up 3-0 to start.

So call it 50-50 to get in. Who in the world thinks they knock of KC at home? I'm not trying to be overly pessimistic and I get that you have to make it first and then anything can happen. All true and all reasonable...but c'mon. The 2019 Steelers have not yet beaten a playoff team. Then on wildcard weekend they are suddenly going to be a functional contender?

Someone needs to help me get over the hump and stop being a playoff grinch here. I just haven't seen anything on offense all season to be like "Yeah. They can put 20-24 on a playoff caliber team and then let the defense do the rest. Here we go!"

I will root and cheer with full allegiance as long as they are playing games, but while this team is fun to watch...I just can't get to the mode where I believe.

    Mojo,
I'm neither positive nor negative on our playoff chances. All I wanted was to have a winning season this year. Mission accomplished. Anything beyond that is a bonus. Making the playoffs is better than not making the playoffs, so let's just root for that to happen.

Like I said in other threads even if we are one and done it hurts Miami's first round pick the further we go.

Depends whether they would pull off a Kemo on Carson Palmer play on the third play of the first possession for the Chiefs.

And, assuming they make it that far, having ARII "outbid" a FAR richer opposing team owner in the SB to have the officials "steer" the game their way.

    PLAY-OFF CHANCES ?

NONE ! Let's quit kidding ourselves, this ISN'T a play-off team ! We are just depleted too much. I'm pretty much done with the football pump this year..... Lets just hope we get through the next 2 games without any injuries and hope we get some good draft picks.

I’ll keep kidding myself. The QB isn’t playoff caliber but the rest of the team is.

You need to also quit kidding yourself that Lynch is or Laundry Jones.

Call it the 1989 syndrome. If we get in anything can indeed happen; the 9-7 Steelers with bubby brister and merril hodge beat the division winning Houston oilers in the playoffs - and we have a better defense than that team had: anything can happen

That Denver playoff loss made me a fan forever. Ran Hoge until he darn near collapsed. And I think it’s the first time I realized Dawson was ridiculous.

I was already a fan for life cause of the 70's. Damn I became a fan of Hodges after that game and the guy played his heart out. They almost pulled it off and overachieve that year!

Missed the 70s. Dimly remember Malone. Grew up with the Brister era.

Understood and if you lived near the area and with those 70's teams you had no choice but become a Steeler fan. Ps. Mark Mallone gets my vote as worse starting Steeler QB ever!

Wasn’t there a bad call or something that resulted in a Denver TD that game as well? That was a good game too...

Might have been but don't remember it. I just remember the team played their heart out and almost made the SB. Hodges was a beast that game!
