its not over! "The silverlining "

    Post week 15 thread.

    it's not over!

We win the last 2 were gauranteed an invite to the dance. IF we win 1 we still have a chance!

if we dont do that silly wildcat in the redzone we probably take a 3 score lead. changes the whole gameplan from there.

    Additionally,
Bills winning puts them in contention to knock off Pats and put them on the road in the playoffs.

I'm confident we can make the playoffs.

    Chins up!

I wish, maybe the Rats rest some players, but I still don’t see us beating them with RG3 as their QB and our offense killing itself with bad play calls for an entire half before making adjustments.

Steelers can win a wildcard tiebreaker with the Titans at 9-7 but it requires the Titans loss to be to the Texans in two weeks, who may have nothing to play for by week 17 and would want to rest players for the first weekend of the playoffs. Guess that tiebreaker would be due to conference records

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/playoffs/machine

After watching tonight Steelers could easily end up 8-8 and would not have a prayer in a road playoff game against Texans, Pats or Chiefs

Sure, the chances of the wildcard might be decent by beating the jets and the Ravens JV squad, but do you really think they will make noise in the playoffs? The defense is championship caliber, while the offense is basically a college team. With Juju back maybe they could make a game out of it with a wildcard level team, but I don't see them going past round 1. On our offense we don't have any playmakers that are ready for prime time other than Conner and Washington, but we need more than that.

Also, I wish the announcers would quit saying the Steelers offensive line is one of the best in the league, it is not.

Just getting to the playoffs would be a huge accomplishment with this team. I personally wrote off the season back in week 2 when Roethlisberger went on IR.

Hell, the fact that the team is still in the hunt for the 6 seed at this point of the season as opposed to being mathematically eliminated by Halloween is incredible to me.

And you know what? I've had more fun following the Steelers this season than I have in years since I've had zero expectations.

They are exactly what the previous weeks have shown them to be. An amazing defense and an offense than can not overcome a single mistake, let alone multiple. I honestly think they get in and then get beat on wildcard weekend.

I think with our defense, we could beat Houston. Hell, we could probably beat the Pats with the way they are playing (I bet Buffalo beats NE by 2+ scores). After that we would get either KC or Baltimore, and don’t think we have a chance at either of them.

8-8 would be an accomplishment after Ben went down in week 2 and the 1-4 start.

The Vegas over/under win total for the 2019 Steelers at the start of the season with Ben was .... 9 wins

No way we beat the Pats. Duck would struggle against that defense just as much as he did vs Buffalo. If not worse, since the game is at NE. Houston maybe. Depends which team from them shows up, they're probably one of the most hot/cold squads I've ever seen. it must be frustrating to be a Texans fan

Speaking of Duck, that was his "Mason Rudolph" game. Now there's a lot to be said how a player bounces back, hopefully he does. Hope he learned the lesson that 50/50 balls against an elite corner is well, more like 10/90 unless you're throwing to an AB or Julio Jones

Sure, the offense looked bad. But, the Steelers won’t play another defense anywhere near as good as the Bills.

And, it took 4 turnovers and two awful punts for the Bills to eke out a win.

    SUMMATION:
    The Steelers can beat anybody.

Pats defense is almost as good, if not better. But yeah playing them would require getting to the AFC championship which won't happen lol

Exactly. Funny thing. Tunch and Wolf were saying the same thing last week as well.

I honestly felt that going .500 with the team once Ben went down would be an incredible accomplishment. I have to admit that I was sucked in to thinking much more of this team due to the recent success's. After tonight I am of the belief that we can make the playoffs but we will not see the SB, and I am ok with that.

I love this D and I hope it's back together at least 1 more season so I can see what it is like with Ben leading the team. No matter what this team has exceeded all my expectations for this year.

I still think this team could do very well but they're lacking dynamic playmakers. Juju was supposed to be that guy, maybe he still may be, but this wasn't his year. Maybe the young WR corps will improve next year. Hoping so, they have the talent but whether they can put it together is something yet to be seen.

All I know is right now, there's nobody on the offense that is a real threat to any defense. We're going into gunfights without bullets against an elite defense

Steelers looked worse in the Browns game. They're still in the 6 seed with the Jets coming next.

Exactly. This was not a bad loss.

    Painful... frustrating... but, not bad.

So are they in with a win at the Jets and a Titans loss to the Saints or do they have to win the last 2?

From what they were saying last night, a Steelers win and a Titans loss secures a playoff spot.

But, from what I see, there are some weird scenarios with three-way and four-way ties that changes that.

The Colts losing eliminates one three-way tie. It drops them to 6-8, and a Steelers win eliminates them from the picture (along with eliminating the Browns and the Raiders).

Since the Steelers own the tie-breaker (better AFC record) against the Titans, head-to-head, we get on over them.

If the Texans somehow shit the bed (and/or the Colts win), it becomes tricky.

So... go Saints tonight AND on Saturday. Go Texans (because, someone has to win the AFC South).

    1. Yes I do think we could make some noise. Anything can happen when you get to the playoffs.Example, Trent dilfer
and Nick Foles is a superbowl champion.
    2. Even if we go one and out in the playoffs. This is huge accomplishment for an extremely young offense. It will be a huge boost in culture and mentality for the young guys. As well as confidence.

This is Pittsburgh, we dont give up. The standard is the standard. We will never be a tank team. We reset and reload, rather than rebuild.

There’s really not any team that stands above the rest. The Ravens, Niners and Seahawks are probably the best but they are all very beatable.

What sucks isn’t that they lost, but that they beat themselves.

Fichtner made some good calls but there was also a lot of questionable calls.

Poor calls, piss-poor blocking and some poor decisions by Duck is what did the team in. Were Ducks poor decisions a result of not having time to throw? Maybe. If you see that the 4 player rush is getting in on a pass protection package that includes 6 players, maybe try for a few more quicker passes downfield instead of the longer developing routes?

Conner busted some nice runs but then it was 8-9 in a box to stop the run.

The thing I hate about Fichtners offenses is there’s no consistency to it. All the plays look different or mish-mashed. There’s never a play run to set up a later play. Everything looks extremely sloppy and unorganized...

    QFT

They really didnt blitz much. There 4 were getting to duck all day. Hats off to their D Line.

They key factor we miss with Roethlisberger is pre snap reads. Mason, Duck, and all the WR are so young. They are going to run the play that is given to them on sideline regardless and try their hardest to make it work.

Duck should have 2 or 3 plays to make proper adjustments on the field.
