The mark of an all-time player in the NFL is dominance during his era. Jim Brown was dominant in his era, certainly, but given what he displayed in nine professional seasons, it's clear that he would have been dominant in any era.

That is why Brown was announced Thursday night as the first member -- unanimously selected -- of the NFL All-Time Team, which will eventually reveal the 100 greatest players and 10 greatest coaches in the league's 100-year history.

Brown was an outstanding all-around athlete at Syracuse University. He was an All-American in football and lacrosse, was one of the basketball team's top scorers and once finished fifth in the college decathlon.

Once he got to the NFL, the combination of balance, power and speed that had been deployed in those other sports was concentrated on football, where Brown is still considered by many to be the greatest player ever. Fifty-four years after his last game, Brown is still the only running back in NFL history who averaged 100 yards per game for his career and he is still the only player to lead the league in rushing eight times. In his ninth game as a rookie, he set an NFL single-game rushing record of 237 yards that stood for 10 seasons, and he came away from that season with his first of three league Most Valuable Player awards. The next year, he shattered the single-season rushing record, gaining 1,527 yards in a 12-game season -- and rushed for 17 touchdowns in the process."

Brown was 6’2 225 and fast at a time when 250-275 lbs was the range for defensive lineman

I remember watching Brown on TV against the Steelers when he was carrying defenders down the field when he was not running over or away from them

Just a great, great player who would dominate if he played in any era

Watched some of the “reaction show” which immediately followed episode 1.
LT was one of the ex-players offering their reactions to the RB list.
When he was asked how he felt about being left off the list, his reaction was pure class.
Said it was an honor just to be considered as being one of the 12 RB’s who made the list.

At one point, for eight games, LT had 3 TDs per game... and 32 by the end of the season. Plus, he had 23 TDs the season beforehand. That is 45 TDs in two seasons... which is the best “two-year stretch” ever.

The bias against recent NFL RBs was PAINFULLY OBVIOUS. It felt like the committee was more interested in impressing themselves by name-dropping old-school players than selecting the 12 best RBs. This works better as a hypothetical list of the 80th anniversary all-time team than the 100th. Not having LaDanian Tomlinson was a joke. Not having Adrian Peterson on that list was a joke. When you don't have LaDanian Tomlinson and Adrian Peterson on an all time NFL team list of 12 RBs and you don't have any other RB drafted after 1990, then the bias is clear

Yeah. The list seems to light on RBs. Considering for much of that 100 years of NFL football, RBs were the main reason for offensive success.
